Being kind to animals isn't a new invention. It's not like ipads or robots. When you speak up for animals, you're walking in the shoes of many amazing and inspiring people. Now, we've teamed up with VeganSneaker.com to give you a chance to step out in cruelty-free style like some of the greats, with these sweet Etiko kicks.
We've got two pairs of sneakers to give away to two lucky Unleashed members!

It may seem obvious, but I'll say it anyway, VeganSneaker.com specialise in selling vegan sneakers from Aussie company Etiko. Etiko's slogan is "Wear No Evil". This means no kids sweating in factories, no ripped off workers without toilet breaks, and no animal products in their shoes!

Some of the greatest minds the world has ever seen have stood up for animals. Albert Einstein for starters. When the German genius wasn't blowing minds with his theory of rela-la-tivi-li-ty (I can't even pronounce it) he was telling the world, "Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet".
And what about Gandhi, who said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated". FYI, I bet Gandhi would have loved a pair of Etikos on his famous Salt March. Just sayin'.
There've been pollies, athletes and musos - all who have walked the walk when it comes to treating animals with respect. Jose Gonzalez, Missy Higgins and Jona Weinhofen just to name a few.
To get your hands on (and feet into) these vegan sneakers we want you to talk the talk. All you have to do is share your favourite quote about animals/activism in the comments. It can be inspiring, thoughtful, funny, anything! (If you don't know any quotes, then google is your friend.)
But wait! There's more! The two winners will also have their entries turned into hot new facebook covers, to help get the idea out there that everyone can treat animals with respect. So stop reading, and start writing! Entries into the comments by June 30th! Good luck!

And the youth are dead or pacified.
Your living your tv dream.
While the innocent are bred to die...
I'll take a stand for those who cant.
I'll scream for those who can't speak.
Caged and slaughtered.
A life of misery.
Just to line the pockets of rich companies.
While we suck at the hand of media and corporations.
We grow fat and sedated.
We kill and destroy...
Our life is over consumption.

"If an alien species came to earth tomorrow and were all so far ahead of us intellectually; based on our treatment of animals; they should harvest us, rape us, lock us up until they torture and kill us slowly to be consumed."
It stuck with me and i think about it most days.

To the millions of lies
That they tell you everyday
Open your mind
To the clever disguise
That the advertisements say
How do they know
What's good for you?
Wake up, wake up, whoa
Wake up, wake up, whoa
A shot to the head
They're better off dead
Will you wake up, wake up, whoa
Destroy all the land
And kill what you can
Just to make the profits rise
Sell you from birth
For all that you're worth
The money spreads like lies
And how do they know
What's good for you?
Wake up, wake up, whoa
Wake up, wake up, whoa
A shot to the head
They're better off dead
Will you wake up, wake up, whoa
Don't wanna hate you
Don't wanna blame it all on you
I'm out of options
If you don't look I'll force you to
If you don't look I'll force you to
If you don't look.. I'll force you to
Wake up, wake up, whoa
Wake up, wake up, whoa
A shot to the head
Just so you can be fed
Will you wake up, wake up, whoa
Open your eyes...
Open your eyes..

If you ask an experimenter why it is logically ok to test on animals, they say ' Because they are like us'. But if oyu ask an experimenter why it is morally ok to experiment on animals, they say 'Because they are not like us'.
This is why animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction.

Each time a man stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.
And crossing each other from a million different centres of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest of walls of oppression and resistance.

For me this is a really powerful quote as it makes us think not about the economic worth of beings, or their ability to change the world, but the suffering and their ability to suffer. Suffering is such a enormous emotion and physical sensation and when we think of it through our perspective of pain and turmoil we can make a better connection to what it actually takes to get the clothes on our backs and the food on our plate.
