Goat reunited with donkey BFFL

Goat reunited with donkey BFFL

When Mr. G was rescued from an animal hoarder and taken in by Animal Place sanctuary in California, it became clear to everyone that he was not a happy goat. Mr. G stopped eating and lay in the corner of his stall for days.

Watch Mr. G's amazing transformation when he is reunited with his best friend Jellybean the donkey:

Nawww. Do you have a best friend? I reckon I'd get pretty sulky if I didn't get to hang out with my bestie anymore, (she's not a donkey but she's still pretty cool). Many animals form strong bonds with others, just like humans. Cows too have best friends; pigs are excellent mothers and sheep make great teachers. Each and every animal has a unique personality and a desire to feel love and be happy :)

Do you have a favourite story about animal love and friendship? I'd love to hear about it :)

5 reasons animals don't belong in tanks

5 reasons animals don't belong in tanks

I'll admit, sometimes it's hard to tell if a shark is happy or sad. (Well, except for Bruce.) But I can tell you, that a tank is not nearly as much fun as the ocean for any marine animal. Here's 5 reasons to avoid marine parks and aquariums:

1. Because sad seals sucks.

2. Because if we love them we should leave them alone.

520-seals-wild-v-captivity.jpg

[Read enough? Make the pledge to never attend a marine park or aquarium now.]

3. Because it's just not natural.

4. Because orcas don't deserve to have their babies taken away from them.

5. Because by simply not attending a marine park or aquarium you can help end this cruelty!

These places only exist to "entertain" us. So if we don't go, they can't continue to exist. What's more, it's way cooler to interact with marine animals in their natural habitat. Check out these lucky tourists hanging out with a mother and baby whale :)

Do you know another reason not to attend a marine park or aquarium? Pop it in the comments below.

Assignments can be a drag no doubt but 14 year old Madi found a way to use her school project to create awareness about animals in factory farms :) And for that, she's our latest Activist Challenge winner!

Check out the picture book she made called 'Freedom':

What did you think? It's sad to think of all those animals in cages isn't it? And the one day that they see the outside world is when they're trucked to slaughter :( But it doesn't have to be this way! Which is why this is my favourite page in the story:

There is a happier place for animals. And you can help free them all from cages simply by making kind choices. Watch this 2 minute video to find out how we're going to end factory farming together:

Seems a pretty simple solution to the number 1 cause of animal cruelty today huh? By taking one (or all) of these steps you can start making a massive difference for animals in factory farms:

'Freedom' author Madi is not only getting active by spreading the word for animals at her school she is also speaking out against factory farming at rallies! Are you doing something awesome to help animals? We want to hear about it! Enter our Activist Challenge comp and like Madi, you could win an Unleashed prize pack and a sweet rep for helping animals.

Watch the reactions of these people as they are faced with how they've been sold cruelty to animals:

Wow. Do you feel like those stunned audience members right now? It's a scary thought isn't it, that marketers can make terrible cruelty sound like a good idea.

Fortunately, as the lady in this video by Compassion in World Farming said, the secret weapon is YOU. You have the power to make conscious choices and not be conned by sneaky marketing. In fact, you have the power to free animals from factory farms for good. Here's how:

There are plenty of ways that you can take a stand against factory farming today:

Lucky Larry lobster gets to live!

Lucky Larry lobster gets to live!

"Let Larry live! Let Larry live!" a group of kids chanted as Larry, the 80 year old lobster, was carried to safety. And I would've been chanting right alongside them if I was there :)

Poor Larry had been dragged from his home in the sea and ended up in the The Dock Restaurant in Waterford, Connecticut ... destined to be ... *gulp* ... someone's dinner :(

BUT, lucky for Larry, Don MacKenzie came to his rescue! He said that Larry would have to be at least 80 years old to be the size he was and that he deserved to live. So he bought Larry, and released him back into the ocean.

He picked a secret location that he thought would be almost impossible for fishermen to drag their nets, in order to give him the best chance at life.

You know some scientist believe that Larry and other lobsters can live forever! Of course, they can die from illness and predators, but getting older doesn't increase their risk of dying. How cool is that? Imagine all the things that might still happen in Larry's lifetime ... hoverboards? Artificial meat?

Personally, I hope Larry lives on to a time where all living creatures get to live out their lives in peace, just like he will thanks to Don.

Unfortunately, commercial fishing takes billions of animals from the sea to be killed every single year. Lobsters like Larry, crabs and other crustaceans who are caught can be kept in overcrowded tanks in restaurants awaiting their death. They may have their claws bound to keep them from pinching anyone. (Well you would want to pinch people too wouldn't you?)*

What's worse, lobsters are sometimes boiled alive and have been known to thrash violently and try to escape :(

The good news is that there is a very easy way that you can save the lives of animals just like Larry (without having to spend a fortune and hire a boat!) Simply don't eat them. Pledge to take animals off your plate and start saving lives today!

What change would you like to see in the world in your lifetime (and Larry's)? Let me know in the comments.

*Cute sidenote: Larry's rescuer Don kept the two thick rubber bands that had been wrapped around Larry's claws as a memento of setting him free.
