After years of campaigning by Animals Australia and Brightside Farm Sanctuary, hens in Tassie will finally be free from those dreadful cages!

Whatever! The point is today is International Day of Families! Its a day to do something nice for your fambam. Pluck mum a flower from the neighbours yard. Ask dad for one of his hilarious jokes. Dont give your bro a hard time for picking his nose if he enjoys doing it, let him do it, just for today. And most importantly do something nice for the animal members of your family too!

Ive got an app that makes my phone a flashlight (doesnt work), and one that promises to give me ripped abs (also doesnt work). But finally I found something useful! PetRescue has released an app for iPhones that matches shelter dogs and cats with potential new families. It couldnt come a moment too soon either, with over 200,000 cats and dogs being put down in shelters around Australia every year ... simply because they couldnt be rehomed.

Live export cow cruelty exposed again!

So did you see the live export story on ABC last night? If not, let me fill you in...

They aired shocking footage from a new Animals Australia investigation in Indonesia. (btw, you can check out the story here) I dont know how many times pollies need to see animals being packed on ships, sent to countries with no laws to protect them, and brutally killed before theyll get it. Its pretty obvious to the rest of us: live exports animal cruelty

Last year, the government introduced a new system and promised we wouldnt see these horrible images on TV again. Minister for Agriculture, Joe Ludwig has been saying today that What this actually demonstrates is that the system does work. But Id like to get a second opinion: Does this look like a system thats working to you?

Lion cubs spared from the circus!

Right, its confirmed Animals Australia Unleashed members are the best ever!

Thanks to stacks of emails sent by you guys to Darling Downs Zoo, two innocent little lion cubs have been spared the cruelty of a life in a travelling circus!

When our big sis Animals Australia broke this story last month, you helped us make it spread like wildfire across Facebook and Twitter and eventually the owners of the cubs listened to the communitys views and did the right thing.

Boots Hiding UGGly Cruelty

I just heard that a high school in Pennsylvania has banned students from wearing UGG boots to class. Apparently the kids have been hiding all sorts of things in them, from mobile phones to chocolate bars!

But not many people realise that the boots themselves hide an even UGGlier truth. They are made from the skin of Australian sheep not just the wool the skin.

Nemo Threatened By Extinction

I should probably start this blog with a rant alert...

I dont know about you, but I always thought Finding Nemo was a pretty awesome movie. So I was really disappointed to hear that sales of clown fish as pets increased after the movie came out. I mean that just goes against the whole story of Nemo trying to escape captivity to get home to his family and friends

But I was even more disappointed recently to read that 1/6 of the species that featured in Finding Nemo are threatened with extinction.
