as a vegan but also just as someone who cares about animals rights I am constantly presented with these same, often i think really stupid, arguments for eating meat etc.
I would like to find a way- scientific, backed up, proven etc to answer or combat these arguments/opinions.
I want to compile a list of the most common arguments
and possible answers too.

the ones I can think of right now are:

*meat is good for you, we need it
* in an indigenous lifestyle animals were eaten and it was all good
* soy crops etc are worse for the environment that meat( vegans are doing more harm than meat eaters)

* animals and plants are both living creatures
*i eat meat because i like it, enjoy it, it tastes good( so there)
* we've done it since the dawn of time

of course I have arguments against all these points but i would like to back them up fully so they are more sustainable and make better solid points.

LOL I'll try to help.

*meat is good for you, we need it

No you don't need it, An animal that can only eat meat needs it. You're getting confused between want and need. Need is when you can't survive without it (I think we're living proof that you can).

* in an indigenous lifestyle animals were eaten and it was all good

Are you living an indigenous lifestyle (or a 3rd world country lifestyle)? Or are you in a situation where you HAVE TO kill animals to eat meat?

* soy crops etc are worse for the environment that meat( vegans are doing more harm than meat eaters)
I think I heard somewhere that animals are being fed soy and other crap... it's like the same thing. (plus you can bring up the green house gasses with the cow point)

* animals and plants are both living creatures
Yeah but one feels pain and suffering and the other is proven not to.
In the end it's the life that's lived that most important.

*i eat meat because i like it, enjoy it, it tastes good( so there)

WOW. Pretty lame reasoning... any excuse would do. (LOL... crap comeback!)
[ugh it's like give them 1,000 reasons not to and all the need is 1 reason to do it]

* we've done it since the dawn of time

It's called evolution, it's time to evolve from out cave man state.

haha. Okay. my crappy reasoning. But this site is good:

*but I just like the taste of chicken/fish/beef too much to stop.

*yeah but they hardly classify as animals anyway.

*it's not like they feel any pain.

*thats not really meat, though.

*its just that, some vegetarians are actuallr really unhealthy and stuff . . .

*its brain food.

*but it is sooo on-trend

*it keeps me warm though.

What I say to anyone who brings up the plants thing is, that plants don't have a sense of living.
Yep.

There's also "we got to be as smart as we are now because our brains developed because we ate meat"

"Plants lack a central nervous system, therefore or auable to feel pain. Autonomic response to stimuli is a different thing entirely. Show me any research accepted by a PEER REVIEWED biological journal, and we have the basis for the beginning of a discussion.' Thats the response to the whole plants feel pain canard simply put "Put up or Shut up" Nobady has ever had a valid response to that, most ussualy I just get "F**K You, C***" as a reply.

I find the best way for dealing with these people is to not get yourself all worked up and defensive. Most people just love to stir and honestly have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

If you do want to conversate, do your research on why being veg is better for you, the animals and the planet. There's alot of info out there and seriously people often ask the same stupid questions so you can reuse your answers! Lol!

I always say if we needed meat to develop our brains, why were our ancestors smart enough to work out how to catch, kill, cook animals when there was a lack of plant foods?

*animals and plants are both living creatures

Yes, that is true. Plants do not feel pain as they don't have a nervous system and they are unaware that they are of existance. However, animals are AWARE that they are living and they feel pain. The world is cruel, and the dead feeds the living and i don't feel bad about eating plants

ORR the short backchatty one i like

Your a living creature, how about i eat you ecstatic

Thats common thing i say when people tell me that.
