Although I could just be blowing it a little out of proportion... It's all what you are comfortable with of course . I ended up just eating biscuits at a christmas party because that's all that was vegan, next time I'm taking my own stuff haha.
I actually agree with you & your previous comment- I just think that it would be pretty rare to even be in a situation where food is served for me and it isn't vegan- you'd definitely tell them if you knew someone was going to be preparing food for you. But if that WAS the case, I wouldn't eat it- I mean, I would explain to them my appreciation for cooking it and what not, but they could always put it in the fridge and eat it another night or for lunch the next day or something so that it doesn't go to waste- or I could take it home and give it to my mum or something... I just don't think I would feel right un-veganising myself for the sake of one meal...
I think that if it's something you believe in, no matter what, you should stick to it. You don't suddenly think rape, murder, slavery, etc is okay because another culture does. Once you start blurring the lines of what you believe then where do you stop?
It's really up to you, but if the food is cooked and there the harmm has already been done so you might as welll use it if you want to.
The problems I see arising from using/eating it though is that parents/family/friends etc will see you eating and take your veganism less seriously, i.e. they'll serve you the same thing again or something else with 'just a little bit' of animal product in it.
I'm wondering what others think.... if you were vegan but family or friends served food to you that wasn't vegan, what would you do? Would you refuse, or eat it so it didn't get wasted? Would you be concerned about offending them?
Absolutely not. Veganism isn't something you can pick or choose based on the circumstances. I also think that if you give in once like that in front of family and friends, it undermines you every other time you refuse.
