Hey guys happy

Okay so i've been vegetarian for a bit over 2 weeks now. I've managed to convince my parents and im cooking all my own meals. the only problem is that i think my  Mum is still worried about my health. She wants me to take a multivitamin to make sure that I'm getting all the right vitamins ect.

Any help? I'm not quite sure whether i need them or not... Personaly i'm happy with my diet and i think im eating healthy but maybe i'll take them to keep her happy...

Help?  love

It really depends on who you talk to as to whether or not you need them. I personally don't take them and I'm the only person in my house who hasn't had the cold yet.

If it will make her happy about your lifestyle choices, maybe it wouldn't hurt to take some. I've heard the natures gate berry capsules are pretty good. Full of all sorts of goodies you get from berries (obviously) They have one specially for women.
Have a look into it. happy I'm not the best to talk to about to in regards to supplements though, since I don't take them.

It cant hurt to take Mulitvitamins, vegan, vegetarian or meat eater. Unless you have a 'perfect' diet (if there is such a thing) chances are you are low, or could do with some more of particular vitamins and minerals.
If your body doesnt need the extra vitamins you consume in the capsule, you will simply pee it out. As far as I know, multis are not high in fat soluble vitamins (these are the ones that are toxic in high doses).
Perhaps you could take yourself to the GP and ask for a general blood test, to see how your nutrient leves are now and if anything needs to be corrected.

Oh and i know this is about vitamins but if you have minerals in the tablet such as iron, calcium etc. it won't just flush out of your system like vitamins and it will stay in side your body and build up to an unhealthy level if you have to much.

If you do choose a vitamin - go with Cenovis (green bottles, can buy them at Coles/Woolies). All the ones I have ever had (Vit C, and a "Flu" mix [garlic, vit c and echinacea]) have no lactose, no dairy and no animal derived ingredients.

Also to keep your mum happy - go and get blood tests every 6mths. Just say you're a vegetarian and you would like to test your iron & B12 levels. They may also suggest other things to test for. When it comes back fine - show the results to your mum and tell her she has nothing to worry about happy

Firstly, congrats on going veg!!! broccoli

I'd def recc a blood test, then go from there. Also, if not already, buy a book on veg nutrition.

There's a veg dietician in QLD who does in person, phone and email consultations for ppl interstate. You basically just tell her about your eating habits, exercise, lifestyle, family medical history etc and she'll offer advice on what you may be lacking and what nutrients to look out for etc. www.veg.onestop.net

Blood test.
It shall solve all of your question.
Personally, i'm not a synthetic fan.
So if I was to give advice, I would avoid mentioning any supps. Just watch your diet. Know your food. Take care of your body, your body will take care of you.... more or less.

Couldn't agree more!

I only take B12, and I know there's some controversy about it, but I rarely consume B12 fortified foods so take it as a precaution. And Omega caps as I hate Flaxseed oil happy
