It more then pisses me off.
1. I'm completely against back yard breeding and puppy mills which this seems to be encouraging as anyone who had a dog which was "champion" woul only stud said dog to other dogs on the circuit.
2. The weight stuff is cruel and messed up.
3. He's encouraging the breeding of dogs which should only be bred to standard as they do have potential to be dangerous.

This. I read recently that the number of cats and dogs killed every year is up to 250 000 sad
I cannot F&^^ STAND breeders. Every pet bought from a breeder/store sentences another in a shelter to DEATH. Grrrr. I want the selling of animals in stores banned. /rant.

And if anyone here doubts how horribly damaging and cruel pedigree breeding can be, watch this:

That is dreadful. However I don't really like it when people bag pedigree breeding, when done responsibly of course. I've seen that doco and its very biased.

I don't think it's biased at all. You could call Earthlinkgs biased. It shows what can go wrong, when we are all accustomed to seeing beautiful healthy purebreds.

I happened to see some of this weight pulling at the Royal Adelaide Show last year. Up until then I didn't even know it went on. It was completely *appalling* I could never imagine subjecting my beloved dog to that, and am amazed anyone would want to  ...

Ruin, I saw Pedigree Dogs Exposed last year too and couldn't believe it. I knew some dogs had genetic disorders but didn't know to such a scale, and the attitude of some of those breeders really seems crazy.
If anyone else watches it, I'd LOVE to hear what you thought of the Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder... angry A friend of mine saved one about to meet a dreadful fate for having the audacity to be born without the ridge (turns out the ridge actually signals a spine abnormality)

Anyway, Catalyst did a follow up to it from an Australian point of view if you're interested, Ruin.

Thats true, but I certainly wouldn't be advocating for breeding crossbreds, (not saying that you were). I don't breed myself, but I know some breeders and their dogs welfare comes first 100%.

For them to do what they do though, the welfare of animals in shelters comes last. 100%.

Fair call, and I do agree, I have both a shelter dog and purebred. But dogs are always going to be bred, and I will always promote responsible breeding over money laundering BYB. Pet shops are the devil and I always refer people to shelters when they ask about my dogs.
