The other thing to think about is a dark red colour called Cochineal. Its basically in ALL blackcurrent drinks, lollies and anything dark red or purple. labelled as "natural colour".. This is crushed bettles. Go look it up!
I LOVE telling people about this one! Can't quite work out why they are so grossed out about drinking crushed beetles, but not by eating animal flesh though!
I love it too!
Cochineal; carmine and shellac. ALL BUGS!!!!
I know, how gross! Like seriously who thinks "I think I'll add some crushed bugs to this!". Geez!
I told my bf & he was shocked, now he tells everyone! Lol!

HAha! What about Lanoline. Its Sheep Sebum. Sebum is whats in pimple. We then are rubing Sheep Pinple juice on us.. Thats also fun to see reactions!
some of the additive numbers i carry around in my mobile of things that are not vegan-
120- cochineal (crushed bugs to make food red),
542- edible bone phosphate,
901-beeswax,
904-shellac (crushed bugs to make things shiny), and
920- im not sure what this one is, something gross though.
Also, if things are red but have 122 they are ok! yay for raspberry sunny boys!
You can buy a Japanese animal-free gelatine called Agar Agar... I learnt that from Masterchef =)
That's what they use in vegan jelly.
It's $2 a pack at my local health food store and it's pretty good (tasty and has a little bit of fibre so it doesn't hit your bloodstream as fast as "regular" jelly).
I love vegan jelly.
Absolutely. It's not just bone, I believe there's skin and hooves and stuff as well. And it's in SOOO many products. It is often used as a thickener in cream and ice cream. I have found it in icypoles, chocolate mousse, basically anything that needs a thickening agent.

Gelatine is one of the most disgusting things ever, and they manage to sneak it into everything.
