Yesterday at our school, a year 8 boy named Daniel killed a bird.
Fortunately I didn’t witness this horrific act of cruelty but heard the same story from many people.
On the basketball court, a helpless bird that could not fly was found by a group of boys. Ricky had picked it up, and ran with it to stop Daniel from kicking it. While Ricky was running he accidently dropped the bird on the floor, but still tried to protect it by standing over it so Daniel couldn’t get it. Daniel, being twice the size of Ricky, pushed him aside and ran up to the bird and kicked it so hard that it hit a fence and rebounded onto the floor. Anthony, a friend, went to pick up the bird but was too scared, so the bird as it was on the floor gasping for air, eventually closed its eyes and died, in much pain, as he also broke its neck.
Some students had buried it on the oval, and when the co-ordinator found out, Daniel was suspended for one day.
To make things worse, I was upset for the rest of the day, and started crying in P.E class. I was told by a teacher ‘I know it’s disgusting, but I think you are over-reacting a bit. The bird is gone now, so you shouldn’t have to worry about it. It’s only a bird, not a human, so get over it.’ She then sent me outside the gym to calm down.
My best friends mum, had rang the school and asked for a longer suspension, and also an apology to be written in the schools newsletter.
My friend and I are both still very disgusted at what happened with the bird and feel like more needs to be done because not only is it cruel, but most people like these can turn into killers when they're older. Do you have any ideas of what we could do besides write into the RSPCA?
I'm sorry to say but... the RSPCA won't do anything beautiful... xx They are a crock. Half the money goes to paying the workers, NOT helping the animals. I have real life stories from what my parents have tried to do and friends etc etc that proves this. :/

I've had the RSPCA called on me once... but I don't think it was out of genuine empathy for an animal or anything, I'm pretty sure it's because my neighbours wanted my horses.

Does he have any pets?
Studies show that pets build animal empathy.
I know it's not really relevant but I'm just curious.
Yeah, supposedly he has a pet parrot and a dog...

This happened in my primary school... back when I was in primary school, that is. I was in year 5 or 6 at the time, and there was a nest of baby finches up in the rafters of the undercover area. One of the kids in my class grabbed a ball and lobbed it at the nest, knocking off and killing one of the babies!

To make things even worse, the teachers did nothing!!! The sports teacher even complimented him on his throwing arm! D=
A small group of us students buried it and gave it a little funeral. I used to sit by the grave every lunch time.

In hindsight, it's kind of sick that my only primary school friend was a dead bird.

But don't worry. Karma will kick that year 8 boy in the nuts. It did to this boy. He's now a drugf***ed nobody who dropped out of school and can't find a job.

h that is sad. I would have given your gym teacher a piece of my mind (no offence, but P.E. teachers are generally rude and a**holes from what I've witnessed)!!

Ahh this happened at my primary school. Some asshole kid grabbed two baby birds from a nest ( I don't know why the nest was so low down) and stabbed them both with a stick, *sigh* I tried to stop him, but obviously I couldn't he was so many years above me.
sad I'll never forget that. I started yelling, everyone did, but I'm not sure what his punishment was furious

I don't know if I could trust a kid like that with pets or anything, I mean they're most likely to turn into murders when they're older - or factory farm workers? (no offense) Sickening. I mean my cousin used to drown cats in a water drum! 0.0
