Tanya M said it all, I think.
Bottom line: horse racing is an industry and these people make money off it.
They aren't interested in the horses' best interest, it's about making the money and you'd be surprised at the length industries that use animals for profits will go to hide and deny what goes on behind the scenes....
Well, not all !!
I didn't talk about the early weaning from their mothers and the physical burden on their undeveloped bodies, or the unimaginable fear experienced at the knackery as they witness the horses ahead of them being shot.

Right, right, well most of what I was thinking anyway!
The industry does a very good job at covering up what is reality. It is good that you look after your horses when they are seen unfit to race but I don’t think this would always be the case.
even if this was the case, these animals have an interest in their own freedom. How is it justifiable that we enslave them and force them to race for our entertainment or financial gain?

I think this enough is a reason for horse racing to be considered cruel. I think it is just deplorable that humans in general not only view ourselves above all creatures but also use them for our entertainment against their will. If a horse could talk it would slam the industry. If a horse had a choice, Im pretty sure it would choose to be on a happy paddock with other horses and nice owners. For me, I dont even have to know the details of racing, circuses etc, its just the pure fact humans use these animals against their will for entertainment. If this was children they were forcing to race it would be "unethical"
I just posted the quote about the 18,000 horses sent to slaughter each year on the intranet at work..we have over 700 employees and my notice sits in amongst various other notices about sweeps running today..
I am a little nervous that I might receive some kind of backlash for the notice, but even if one person visits horseracingkills.com, it will be totally worth it..
In the barriers
At the at the start of the race
The gates fly open
I leap forward to set the pace
My head is held high
Mouth wide open
Tensed and strained
Like the cruel steel bit
That saws my tongue
Crushes my gums and cuts my lips
My eyes flash wild and wide
My muscles twitch in fear of the ride
Down the home straight
I am not far back
Out come the whips
Their searing burning pain
Hitting and cutting my sides
Again and again
My heart is racing
My lungs are exploding
My sides are heaving
As I cross the finishing line
Yes I have won
But what a life
As I live in fear
Of the knackers knife
So please when you ride me
Be gentle with the rein
For I am your friend
No longer a servant
To humanities greed
