You argue that the ~36,000 horses will be slaughtered if horse racing was banned..but I don't think anyone is talking about a sudden ban where theres no notice..
It would be more of a phase out approach and therefore, the horses could stop being bred for this purpose.

In fact, I really don't even think there is a possibility of it being banned (in the near furture at least), and thats not even what I'm aiming for..The less people who support this horrible "sport", the better and if I can change even one persons opinion then I think its all worth while.

Arguing that the practices should change to make things more bearable for the horses is quite similar to encouraging people to eat free-range beef (rather than go veg) in my opinion. Sure, it may be better than what is going on at the moment but we still shouldn't be using them at all.

And no matter how well the horses who race are treated, it still doesn't change the fact that thousands of less fortunate horses will be slaughtered in order to pick out the winners.
Thats a good comparision, Im not aiming to get it banned NOW, im aiming at getting the public and others I know to see what happens behind the scenes. It wont get banned now, neither will eating meat, if ever.. but over many many decades it can be limited to the point it the demand of it is so slow it doesnt make a profit.

People dont even watch the horses, they only care about betting, drinking and looking pretty.

first of all
do u think we are going to ban racing over night, doubt it!
also the Coalition For the Protection Of racehorses is offering to help rehome ex racehorses, obviously it will be impossible to save them all though.

Then
they will be sent to the slaughterhouse eventually, why not end their suffering, and not breed anymore, save the extra 18,000  A YEAR

And while you say anyone can put things on a website, the horseracingkills.com website, is the coalition for the protection of racehorses site and i am one of their volunteers and know the people who run it very well, and its not misinterpretation or fake.

I agree!, Their website is all facts. the footage on their was filmed at the races where horses were shot dead on the track in front of thousands. They did make this up!! its plain and clear. I have been inside a horse slaughterhouse. I have seen the chunks of flesh on the floor and the tails of horses hanging up around the place. It was disgusting .

This is where the horses end up when they don't make people money.
There is no justifying this .

I get where your coming from. But we get all of our horses with natural horsemanship to get broken in. We are really good friends with the trainer and they come back home frequently to spell and have a week or two in the paddock, and they have really good diets like they are really healthy and happy, maybe its just how i see it, i know that it can be really really cruel in other places, but my horses are actually really happy! But im only 15 so dont listen to everything i say hahaah but we do know how to make our horses happy and yeah happy its probably not the case in most studs though!

Its not always the case! Ours is more about our animals than the industry, its not all about money, i get in most places racing can be cruel, but your all kind of stereotyping

Our foals are weaned then they are ready? We don't do it early. The babies naturally wean themselves after a while and slowly start being more independent, and if you do a slow process its good for the mare and foal.

The bits arent bad really? You can get bits that roll on their tongue and not on the top of their mouth so it doesnt make them uncomfortable or in pain. If the bits hurt them that much then they wouldnt be selling them and they would be really efffected by them. It all depends on how the human treats the horse and what kind of person they are, so dont think its everyone! happy

Its not everyone I know this, people all treat their animals differently unfortunatly some people have pets dont treat them right the same as people with race horses they can treat them well or not so well why they are alive. But at the end of the day they are as you said part of an idustry. And an indusrty wants to make money this is the purpose. At the end of the day it the fact that these animals are used as a object not as an animal being able to live it life as it was born to do. They do have bits as you said in their mouth they are whiped they are made to race and when they dont do this well most of them are shot and made into dog food.

I am not stereotyping you or the industry, it is fact that if horses cant be used they will be killed or retired. My question is how do you think they are treated at the slaughter house ? It doesnt matter how good their life was while being whiped and forced to race with bits in their mouth as long as they had good feed and you were kind enough to let them actually be weaned properly.

I think to truely be sure about all the facts you need to experience how majority of the race industry treat their horses. Go to the race track and watch horses fall and break their bones, see them being shot on the track, also witness the horrors of the knackery because this is where majority of ex race horses will end up.

Its good to see your making a step in the right direction towards the welfare of your horses, But no industry that based on the lives on any animal can be in the intrest on the animal.
