For a bit of a needle-phobe is it better (that is to say less intimidating) to start with nose or lip?
From whatever experience you guys have, anyway.

I can't advise on this one, because I think it's a very personal thing, but I do want to say, if you choose your nose, do not get it done at a pharmacy. They use piercing guns there (the same things usually used to do ear piercings), and you do not want that going anywhere near your nose. The explanation is a bit complicated, but more or less, using a piercing gun is literally having someone punch a hole through your flesh. You especially don't want a bored 16 year old girl with no training doing that.

Also, I believe piercing guns can't be sterilized properly. I'm not even sure all pharmacies even know how to sterilize equipment properly, given that it's a side thing, and not a major source of their income. Definitely go to a safe piercing parlour.

Thank you for hearing me out! I promise you won't regret it. happy

PS. Personally, my lip hurt less. wink But I don't have a phobia of needles (I actually love getting my blood taken), and either way, it's a big needle they use if you're afraid of them!

Well, I'm not really certain if or how it will affect me, since my phobia of needles comes more from the fact that they're injecting me with something that is beyond my control than the needle itself.

That actually makes a lot of sense; I'd be interested to know how it turns out for you. All the usual stuff will help. Research your piercing parlour thoroughly (although you sound like you'd be doing it anyhow), ask them how they sterilize equipment, talk to the person performing it about your phobia so they know to be particularly careful with you, eat something decent beforehand so your blood sugar doesn't drop, and so on. I think a person's fear of it is usually much worse than the act itself. All those things should help calm you down, even if they're unrelated to the needle part itself.

Also, please note I wasn't intending to make fun of you! I have an absolutely ridiculous phobia - selachophobia, which is a fear of sharks - so I would never make fun of anyone for a phobia; I understand it's something you can't control. I just realized my previous post may have read like that, and wanted to clarify.

I have had four lip piercings (one labret and three verticals) and two nose piercings, Nose feels like you've been punched in the nose, or walked into a wall, lip is just really stingy for a second. Either one, it's only for a second ^_^ It also depends on the size, if you're just getting a small nose piercing, it's a breeze and heaps easier than lip i believe ^_^

Devo is right, do not go to hairdressers or places like "body magic" or "essencial beauty"
Go to a parlour who has an auto clave, who sterilises EVERYTHING and knows what they're talking about. You don't need training to be a piercer, and at most, a majority of "piercers" get maybe a week or two of training and know very little.
Make sure they'll be able to tell you about the proper after care too!
I'm good friends with a couple of piercers and they're the best i've ever known. The head piercer trains her apprentices for a YEAR.

Good luck with getting a piercing, ecstatic I have a fear of needles too, but it's just injections or blood tests now. Tattoos and piercing are fine, but other needles? i feel like freaking out just thinking about the, ugggh >_<

Ohh and the scarification is going to be on my chest between my cat tattoos (I'm getting a love heart)
and the next tattoo is going to be a veryy cool looking pencil on my right hand (taking up that side bit near thumb and finger), writing "Just draw" on my finger ^_^
