This is my EXACT problem too!
my fav meat alternative is deep fried tofu, its not the healthiest of things, but we've got a deep fat fryer and whenever my parents are having fish and chips i ask them to put a chunk of tofu in, its delish. (well for me it is).... tongue
i also take vitamin supplements, like flaxseed oil, it has a really nice nutty taste.
i know how you feel!! I find soy milk and rice milk to strong, but have adapted well to so good lite. yum. sometimes i find it wayyyy to hard. i'm not completely vegan yet. can anyone tell me why eggs are bad? even if they come from chookens you know personally??

K, I'll give it a try. tongue

In regard to free range eggs..
>Because only female chickens lay eggs, for every female chicken born to lay eggs, a male one is killed at just after birth.
>There is nothing setup by the government which determines what's free range and what isn't -- anyone can say their eggs are 'free range' regardless of the conditions the birds are kept in.
>Once the chickens stop laying eggs (when they age), they are slaughtered and generally become pet food.

In regard to eggs that come from a friend's chickens...
>There isn't really a big problem (but I'll set out what COULD be deemed a problem). If you know personally where the eggs come from, and you are satisfied with the condition of the birds and believe they're happy, you may as well eat them. Of course though, ask the owner of the chickens what happens to the birds after they stop laying eggs.
>It may confuse people who don't know the origin of the eggs, thinking that it's fine to eat eggs from the supermarket when really it isn't.
>Some people simply object to using animals for any reason whatsoever.
>Eggs are high in cholesterol.

That's all I can think of... they're are probably other reasons, but that's all I can think of. Good luck with the vegan transition!

Some good observations Matt. I've been asked many a time whether I'd eat eggs from chickens if I looked after them myself. While I don't see any real issue with people doing this, I personally am very happy and healthy not eating eggs. So instead I would give them to someone who would otherwise buy eggs from a supermarket. That way you are further reducing demand for commercial egg productions and hopefully helping a few more hens thumb

hahaha! we all came from vaginas! i occasionally eat eggs from my neighbours well loved chooks, but otherwise i dont eat them and avoid them as an ingredient. otherwise,  i am happy with scrambled tofu!
eggs are no longer classified as high cholesterol, but dont tell people! and i have a friend with a vitamin b deficiency and she is 22 so it can happen, it can cause neurological damage so best to be on the safe side i think and get tested or take supplements etc.
