I was so shocked to find out that most of all dog and cat food brands are owned by Mars, Nestle or Proctor and Gamble, which are just as bad as Unilever

Oh hell. I knews Mars tested on animals, but I had never heard anything specific like that little gem. What on earth could they possibly gain from that?

This is exactly why I live the lifestyle I do.

Is there no high quality brand of pet food that doesnt participate in awful tests?!?!?!
Looks like they make Advance and Royal Canin too.
angry sad furious
How can I do the best for my pets while not supporting these types of companies!
How can these companies be allowed to do such stupid things sad
If you have cats, you may not want to be feeding them that sort of food anyhow. Most of it is made primarily from grains, which cats are not supposed to consume - but it's cheap.

Also, there's a lot of evidence that the major pet food companies use the remains of euthanized animals in their food, because it's freely available, and also very cheap. I'm not even kidding with this. There's a lot of controversy, too, because the drug that is usually used to put down domesticated animals can survive the rendering process, and traces of it can be found in the food.

This happens a lot more in the US, but you can be sure it's happening here, too.

But I'm vegan now, so I don't support Mars anyway. I would also like to warn everyone that Mars own Pedigree dog food, so I don't buy that either.
Really? I had no idea that Pedigree is owned by Mars.  scared My family seldom buy from Pedigree as it is, I'm just... surprised.
My aunt is a manager for master foods, they do mars, pedigree, whiskas, starbursts, skittles... SO many products it's unbelievable.

EEEEEWWWWWWW. You made it worse! I didnt think it could get worse sad

My cats pretty much only eat Advance because one has a VERY sensitive stomach and throws up and get diarea if he has anything else. And it also helps urinary tract problems which one of the others has had in the past.

I dont really see any other option to keep them healthy. sad

As if I didnt feel bad enough about having to give them meat products now I feel awful about them torturing animals too sad

Ew... That's tragic and disgusting at the same time. I might try that Nature's Gift pet food. It's Australian and they don't use horse meat. They aren't owned by some big evil company are they?

I decided that I didn't want to buy anything from Mars nor from their affiliated companies. I took my cats off Whiskas and the only thing I found for them that they love, even more than Whiskers was Dine.... BUT, I discovered recently that Dine are a Mars brand!!!! UGH! I still feed it to them though. I don't know what else to do. I can't exactly afford anything else.
I just discovered that Masterfoods is also a Mars company!!!! I've been using their tartare sauce as its the only vegan one out there, that I have seen.

It's hard to pick the right battles, really.

It's so hard, close to impossible, to find a brand that is 100% ethical. sad

Apparantly euthanised animals, meat passed its use-by date, and other animal bits are ground up and put in makeup, soap, etc. So when a product isn't vegan, that's what it could have in it. Disgusting. Luckily I only use vegan products!
