There is my reply (Glenn2go)

I still have mixed views about this and other welfare campaigns though. The legislation, whilst horrible to try & deny them food/water, is only such a small issue - if you were stolen from your mum as a baby & were going to be transported in a truck to get killed, is not having food/drink really the biggest of your problems? lol probably not! Nevertheless, I strongly believe it has helped to raise issues about dairy/bobby calves etc indirectly, even if it is just to get a bit of footage out there of the poor cows - maybe educating people on the health impacts of consuming animal products would be a more efficient way....people are more likely to listen if it's about their health, rather than the rights of an animal (or maybe include both to get more people to think about it happy ).

Anywho, overall, great job Animals Australia for getting the issue of dairy out there happy I know on this website, even with welfare issues, it has a "Go Dairy Free" after it which is AWESOME - & good on 7PM project.....

...im sure the Dairy Farmers will attack me now on that forum haha

I was very happy with what they presented about bobby calves and the dairy industry. It's shocking everything that happens and I'm so glad I'm a vegan. happy
It's pretty shocking too, how many people know little about the dairy industry and how cruel it really is. I really hope after some people watching that segment that they might consider making the switch to vegetarian or vegan. ecstatic

wait, let me get this straight.
The dairy industry use to be able to starve calves as long as they wanted but now tougher restrictions are in place to make it illegal to not feed calves for longer than 30 hours?
Is that true because that sounds like an improvement?

That's great! I'll be putting my comment on in just a sec! I would have done it last night but my internet cut out for a few minutes, so I thought I'd just do it this morning.
happy

EDIT: Alright, I posted a reply, I'm Kaity007 btw (James Bond hahaha).
I just did a simple reply, mainly focusing on how great it was that the 7pm project did the story and that AA got the issue on TV.

Industry guidelines currently state that bobby calves shouldn't be left without food for more than 10 hours. But this guideline is not 'enforceable', and most operators leave the calves without food for much longer.

Changing the 10 hour guideline to a 30 hour standard is the industry's way of legalising what is already occurring -- operators starving calves of food for up to 20 hours longer than the current guideline recommends.

This will give people in the industry even less incentive to ensure calves are fed within a reasonable timeframe, and yes, the industry is calling this an animal welfare 'improvement'!
