I realise I'm not the most popular person on this forum, but please- only a total twit would be vegan during pregnancy, and force ''veganism'' onto an infant. Seriously, I have two small children, who are the centre of my life, and it is so risky/dangerous to go without dairy/meat (AT LEAST white meat- fish etc) when your carrying a bubby. Its the one time you really have to step up and put the best interests of your bubby ahead of your own ''Urgh, I could never eat that'' way of thinking. I'm not being horrible, but that would just be bonkers.
I'm wondering why you use the word 'force'. Do Christian parents who bring up their children 'force' their Christian beliefs on them? You could say meat eaters 'force' their children to eat meat until they are old enough to choose.
Also, are you a dietitian? Or a nutritionist? I know of a couple of people who've had vegan babies and they've been perfectly healthy. All parents want the best for their kids and I'm sure if they choose to raise their babies vegan (as is not the norm these days, not yet anyway) that they would seek the proper advice from a nutritionist.

On the contrary, consuming dairy/meat during pregnancy is more risky/dangerous than a vegan pregnancy.
As for the other points, they have been addressed by others here.
Also that article is not accurate, at least, not specifically. negative assumptions can be made about any diet, and since pregnancy is a time when your requirements become more specific, it's going to be harder to meet them regardless of your normal patterns.
However saying that cutting dairy out of your diet makes it impossible to meet nutritional requirements is just crap, dairy is not a miracle food, it's not even designed for our bodies. There is nothing that you can gain from dairy that cannot easily be obtained from other foods.
sorry, but no, your wrong. It is essential for a pregnant woman to have plenty of calcium, iron etc. But if your happy to feed your pride and joy hommus and water I guess that's your choice. Poor bubby
I'm sure if you took the time to ask any vegan parents what they fed their children it would be a lot more than "hummus and water".
I haven't had a child myself but I assume for the first six months or so it would be breast milk, same as any other baby, which absolutely provides all the nutrients needed. Beyond that, you'd have to ask, if you'll be bothered to. I know we have a few vegan parents on this forum that would be more than happy to address any concerns you have.

You can tell me I'm wrong until the world stops spinning, but it doesn't make it so. I'm pretty sure my 8 month old baby is doing fine
Kirrilly, no, I'm not a dietician. But I am a mother, which I assume your not...? As I said, I wasn't being nasty in that msg. I think you just seek out my name and pounce to attack anything I say And yes, I suppose encouraging a child to eat meat until they're old enough to choose could be seen as 'force', but at least its in the child's best interests. FYI, while I'm not a dietician, I have studied Child Nutrition. So yeah, in answer to your sarcastic question, I do know what I'm talking about.
