JamieCS, 'if I really had studied'..... Haha!  funny Unbelievable. So once again, the vegan way is the only way. Haha. Funny. If your mum ''really has'' been a dietician for 20 years, ask her what she thinks of a pregnant woman/infant being on a vegan diet.
Nobody said it's the only way. It's a valid alternative to the norm. If you could back up your argument against with unbiased sources, that would be great.

Kirrilly, no, I'm not a dietician. But I am a mother, which I assume your not...? As I said, I wasn't being nasty in that msg. I think you just seek out my name and pounce to attack anything I say  rolleyes And yes, I suppose encouraging a child to eat meat until they're old enough to choose could be seen as 'force', but at least its in the child's best interests. FYI, while I'm not a dietician, I have studied Child Nutrition. So yeah, in answer to your sarcastic question, I do know what I'm talking about.
What if someone were to show you evidence that a vegan diet is actually healthier? Would you change your mind about what is in a child's best interest?
Without malice love it's basically, you know what you know, and we know what we know...we've come across facts and information that is different to what most of us, you & I for sure, have been brought up to believe.
We all do the best we can as parents. Ours brought us up the best they could with the knowledge they had, and we're doing the same for our kids. Can't just ignore new facts and evidence because it contravenes what we've always done & believed
The only difference I see between you & I is what knowledge we've been exposed to.

sorry, but no, your wrong. It is essential for a pregnant woman to have plenty of calcium, iron etc. But if your happy to feed your pride and joy hommus and water I guess that's your choice. Poor bubby  sad
Oh god, the 'you only get calcium from milk and iron from meat' argument.  yawn

Any mother only wants the best for their child so why feed them (and yourself) shit from conception? Everyone knows vegies are good for you.

Rumour has it that green leafy vegies are also an excellent source of iron too. Gasp!  rolleyes

Uh, no miss monster, your wrong. Not sure where you heard that lost, but its total shit. Yes, pregnant women should stay away from lots of things. For eg, SOFT cheeses (camembert, brie etc) salami, SOME seafoods etc. But no, pregnant women do not need to stay away from milk, yoghuty etc. Total crap.

Actually, I believe that vegan and vegetarian mothers have a lower rate of miscarriage, a lower chance of both gestational diabetes and preeclampsia.  Children born to vegan mothers are less likely to be obese in adulthood.

Not to mention the fact that both meat and dairy are known causes of cancer, heart disease, diabetes...  happy birthday, kid!

EVERY SINGLE pregnancy book I have looked at indicates that vegan and vegetarian pregnancies are perfectly fine, and my doctor seems particularly happy with my veganism.

As has been said, plant sources of iron and calcium are absorbed by the body better, and a lack of animal-protein actually aids in the strenghtening of fetal skeletons.

Sorry B&S, but what you're sprouting is BS and I trust my doctor over you to tell me what's good for the tiny human I'm growing inside me.

exactly Kimberly, and if you took the time to read what I've said TWICE, you'd see I've also said that meat and dairy are not the only source of iron and calcium.

So if my children have excellent levels of iron & calcium from their plant based diet, LITERALLY  what is the harm?

Apparently the point is you can get iron and calcium from non animal sources but the vegan concept is completely bonkers
