I just want to know what do people think of the proposition of eating horses. Is it any different than eating beef, or any other meat?

I personally think that if there is a demand for it, I see no reason why not. I can honestly not see what is so bad about eating horse when people eat cows, sheep, and other animals. Whether or not you feel eating meat is okay or not, I can't see why horses should be classed specially. Is it because they deserve to live more than other animals? We have decided many other animals are fine to eat, but not horses? They're not endangered or poisonous.

Opinions? I love a good political debate.

I think a good majority of people value companion animals over other animals.

i'm not sure if this is the best forum for a discussion on meat as we all discourage meat eating.

I can totally see why It would cause uproar in many people, the Horse is largely seen as a domestic animal as opposed to food, it's like saying they'll start selling cat, dog or fair penguin meat, it's just societies weird idea that some animals are more worthy than others.

People who eat any kind of meat are morally unconcious. The species of animal is irrelevant.

I thought this was the best forum in which to discuss this, being a food issue. I thought it may relate to ethical issues to do with eating meat, something vegetarians have done themselves.

Sorrys if this is in the wrong one by the way.

I don't think it's any better or worse than eating any other animal, but really.. There are enough animals being killed to eat already!
That's the lines I was thinking along, despite the fact I do eat meat.

I agree that it's the same as eating beef and pork and other animal products.
Yet many people find it disgusting and 'cruel', just like eating dogs.
It just the emotional attachment we have to horses and dogs more than farm animals. Even though animals like pigs are as intelligent and emotionally similar to dogs.

How confusing  confused

horses have let us ride on there backs, lead them around  and have let us bond with them ( not that u cant bind with other animals but thats how majority of the pop. see them as i guess)

horses have always been a food source but its faded in the western world ubtil now since the butcher vince ( sorry dont know his last name) has brang up the idea of introducing horses to the menu, i dont eat meat but there are already thousands and thousands of horses been slaughted every day in australia and there meat is been exported over to canada , mexico and france and some is keept here for pet food. if we didnt have slaughter houses ( as much as i hate them) there would be more animlas suffuring out there, starvation, neglect, disease ect ect . until horse bredding is undercontrol and the racing industry stops there will always be a over supply of horses.

Exactly!

From an early age we are taught to eat meat, think it "the norm". Meat is "nicely" presented on a foam tray and does not resemble the animal at all. Be it cow, pig, sheep whatever. We are taught emotional detachment to farm animals from an early age.

Domestic pets on the other hand are "part of the family" so there is an emotional bond so ppl are angered when these animals are eaten. The outrage! Oh no!

Thought this was interesting.... http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/35008.html

Well i think it would be easier to get people to become vegetarian if there are less types of animals. Also, i think it would be easier for the world to one day become vegetarian if less types of animals are eaten.
