That depends, many of the horses not used for races etc are sent for China for slaughter, and we all know what China is like...
I personally don't mind people eating meat, but some meats i do not agree with, such as horse, kangaroo etc.
Why is that, if you don't mind me asking?
Some meats, such as Pig, Cow, Chicken etc etc, have been used for hundreds of years, Horse, Kangaroo etc hasn't been used for nearly as long, atleast not in most civilized countries as a "popular" meat to be eating.
I would hate to see farm yards with hundreds of horses or even Kangaroos all packed in waiting for slaughter, it just doesn't seem right in my eyes.

It really isn't any different from eating normal factory farmed meats. Realistically Australians should stick to kangaroo meat if any, since kangaroos don't have as a negative impact on our environment as say, cows.
All animals deserve basic rights, including the right to live - Whether or not we deem them 'companion' animals.
I thought this was the best forum in which to discuss this, being a food issue. I thought it may relate to ethical issues to do with eating meat, something vegetarians have done themselves.
Sorrys if this is in the wrong one by the way.
I think this is the perfect place to discuss this. A horse is an animal, and this forum is dedicated to animal welfare.
What I want to know is, how come it's okay for horses to be in our glue, but not on our plates? What's the difference?
Edit: Now all I can think of is that horrible scene in Animal Farm where the pigs send the horse to the knackery.
i see no difference between eating a horse or a cow. humans have been eating horses since before the modern breeds of cows even existed. to say that i agree with it is another thing entirely. I don't agree with any meat eating at all. all adding horse to the menu does is make people think that they have the right to decide what to do with any animal, which is not the case. once upon a time people used to thank the animals for giving up their life to become food, to respect them. now people don't think twice about the slab of flesh on their plate and just take it for granted. factory farms and slaughterhouses show what humanity has become and it saddens me.
People who eat any kind of meat are morally unconcious. The species of animal is irrelevant.
We are taught emotional detachment to farm animals from an early age.
I don't agree,
I was recently out purchasing gifts for a friends newborn bub & majority of stuffed animals are farm animals! Cows, pigs, chickens etc. These animals fill all the story books too!
Not to mention petting zoo's with baby farm animals are very popular with kids in shopping centres these days too.
I don't think kids are taught emotional detachment, they are taught logical disconnect!

Most Australian's that feed their dogs processed or canned food, are feeding them horse!
