You get people who just have an issue with vegs because of their diets, and the fact that animal rights activists are fighting against their way of life. Think about it, the more we fight for animal rights, the more they're going to pay for their meals (due to improved standards) or the less they're going to see of meat or dairy.

Most of the people I know are really cool with it, they're always asking how I substitute things and are interested in trying it. I always bring baked goods in for the guys at work, and one even asked me to bring him in a cheesly sandwich to toast!

some people will also hate all vegetarians based on one bad experience, I know I hate certain majoritys because of one bad experience (even though I know I shouldn't)

But if people are asking you about veg ideals, educate them. Just know where to draw the line and learn when enough is enough, or when you're just beating a dead horse (so to speak)

its nothing to do with "ignorance is bliss" .  People do not dislike vegitarians or vegans what people dislike is you pushing your agenda down our necks.  If you choose to not eat meat then good for you but dont think you need make every person you  meet one
Wow... That was a pretty mean response Daniel5.

You can't just go say she is wrong, she has a valid point.. I know for a fact people hate vegos for the reasons she said.
With that response, I'm suprised your on this website? AA is all about the brutle truth.. And making people aware of what they are consuming and contributing to in there everyday life.
That's a good point Daniel. You say we're pushing our "agenda" down your throat but you're the one who actively seeks out an animal rights forum and reads the posts?

im not saying you go out of your way to force your beliefs onto people.

The question was 'WHY DO NON VEGAN/VEGOS HATE US"  and im simply saying that we DONT hate you its the fact that you have made your choice ( Which im not saying is right or wrong it is your choice) However SOME of you now take it apon yourselves to push your agenda and this it the part that people dont like.

And i will add i have friends that are vego and a sister that is and i dont force them to eat meat as much as they dont try and change me

I suppose you can see it as; us pushing our agenda down your throats... Or us speaking on behalf of the voiceless beings who are injustly tortured and murdered.

I know which one I'm doing... I couldn't care less about the omnis, it's the animals I care about.

exactly!

and as for the pushing it down people's throats...is it only considered that because we are the minority?

I have had people pushing down my throat that meat is good, and good for you, we have governments that put a lot of money into the meat industry,  the meat industry sponsers events and comes up with biased adverts about meat and persuding society that we're unaustralian? publishing studies saying how bad our diets are, indoctrinating people with biased sugar coated knowledge. All while being ignorant/uninformed

whats that called?  brainwashing?

but anyway, people can hate whoever they want, just best try and be the best version of ourselves we can be, some people obviously don't do that. meh

it really can be a fascinating topic though.. being hated for taking really positive steps to make for a better world, to "sacrifice" the selfish desire of eating meat, with our downfall being our passion and inability to contain the despair that we have through compassion for creatures other than ourselves as opposed to meat eater..what are they doing to help the universe other than themselves (that's a generalization....but then again so is the rude vegetarians thing)

I agree, we have to put up with so much more. I'm sick of seeing sam kekovick tell me i'm unaustralian for not eating a baby sheep or sam neill dancing with an orangutan telling it how great a chunk of decaying flesh is and implying that it's the only food you can get your essential nutrients from. Or the old dairy industries ads that encouraged parents to get kids to drink a glass of milk, eat a tub of yoghurt and a piece of cheese every day for calcium for their bones when dairy is actually detrimental to bone health. Or the steggles ads that claim "there are no cages in our sheds" trying to dupe the public into thinking that they care about their chickens when broiler sheds don't have cages anyway the conditions are disgusting and cruel without them. any ad that tries to pass off animals getting a good quality life made by a company that gets its produce from factory farms pisses me off. i know of only one ad on tv encouraging fruit and veg, the 2 and 5 one, but it doesn't encourage the other healthy foods like grains, pulses and legumes and it doesn't tell you to decrease your meat intake. vegetarians are only seen to be pushing their agenda because they're outside the norm. when it's the meat or dairy industry pushing you to eat their products its ok by you. it's a matter of perception.

Nah they still would still dislike  us even if we didnt push it down their throat.
I have to agree. I have NEVER, EVER pushed veganism or even vegetarianism down my friends' throats, yet they arc up if the topic of food is broached, or if I say "Ooooh, that's dairy free".

I've had people scowl, turn around and walk away the second the words "I'm vegan" come out of my mouth.

That said, I've had even more people say lame things like "oh, I tried being vegetarian once" and "I'd love to be a vegetarian but I love chicken too much".

...I think it's defensiveness.

Whoa guys settle!

I think everyone here, including Daniel5, has a valid point.

I can understand where the OP is coming from, having a father who likes to pick fun at my choices, but I can also see where Daniel5 is coming from.

I think half of our problem is coming from all the negativity that we (and I am including myself in this one) use to convey our message. Yes, we do need to get the message across about the cruelty, but we can do it in a way that ends in a positive.

It's about awareness and action, focus on the successes we've already had, admit the defeats (we're all going to come across some people that just can not be swayed) and work on the ones that are willing to listen.

Before I went veg I will admit having some contact with animal activist groups I did think they were way too out there and immediately my guard went up and I refused to listen. It was only that I cam across this website that I actually sat back and did think about what I was doing, eating meat, and the consequences that came with it that really made stop and think about it.

Give Daniel5 credit. He is here and reading what we have to say, so yeah he may not be veg but he is curious about it and that's a start happy

I use to be a vegetarian, and would love to go down that path again very soon.

I'd like to this at my own pace without having the vegetarians shoving it down my throat and neither the non-vegetarians doing the same thing!! I think thats where one of the troubles are with 'people hating vegetarians' or the other way around..
