i meant why doesnt she buy animals, not in the sense that their property, but saving one from the RSPCA or something.
I know animals arent property, but you still BUY them..
I prefer the words ‘adopt’ or 'rescue.' They've worked out easier for me in the past when explaining to people how I feel about the whole 'pet' scenario, and moreover animal rights. To me the word 'buy' sounds as though I'm taking ownership of something/someone.

i understand, yeah theyre much better words
haha, I would't say they're 'better' words... i just find them easier to use when explaining the abolitionist approach to others.

From what I understand the price that you actually pay upon adoption is not really for the animal, it's for the cost of vaccinations, vet care, micro chipping and sterilization.

thats what i thought too, but if it was just that then the RSPCA wouldnt get any profit what so ever, so maybe a small amount is for the actual animal..i think..

I didn't think the RPSCA were driven by profit? Like they don't have a CEO or share holders do they?
We sell (err Adopt out ) stray kittens/cats. We sell them for $160 which covers desexing, microchipping, vaccinations, worming, de-fleaing etc. We don't make any profit whatsoever (we feed them, house them and look after them for as long as they are with us), as like most rescue places. The only difference is we only take in a max of 6 kittens to rehome so that they get our undivided attention.
However, having said that, I've recently heard that some shelters "buy" them from pounds at a reduced price (rather than selling them to the public) and sell them for a higher amount than what the animal would be sold for at the pound. That's wrong.

That is so cool that you do that!!! I'd adopt a kitty off you cept you aren't in WA so that doesn't help much..... off to the shelter I go....
YAY!!! this is so good! i work at the rspca as an adoption officer and its so satisfying when we successfully adopt out an animal good luck with it! xo
