Hey everyone!

So, I was just wondering what goals everyone has in regards to career paths. Or, what are you currently studying at uni/tafe/etc. or what did you study?

happy

To get the ball rolling, I'm currently in Year 12, so I haven't started university yet, but here is my plan...

I would like to study Law and Environmental Policy and Management Double Degrees at Adelaide University. From there, I would like to join the Greens party, and do my best to advocate for environmental issues, and, or course, awareness of animal cruelty, which will hopefull cause people to want to change it. (I know this will be hard, but I want to try anyway).

Then, once I have all of that set up (or sooner, if that's how it works out), I would like to buy a property up in the foothills somewhere that's big enough to keep animals. That way, I could get involved in rescuing animals from factory farms, and care for them there. I would also grow all of my own veggies, and such.

But yeah, I hope that works out. happy

Anyway, what do all of you lovely people have planned out? happy

I'm 22 and only just started Uni last year as a mature age student. I studying through OUA so I can fit it all in around work. I'm studying a BA in History and Politics and my plan is to quit my full time job get a part time one use my subjects that I've already done as credit and hopefully get into accepted into a BA with La Trobe doing Archaeology so I can study on campus. Then years down the track I really want to work on digs or do some historgraphy. I would also love to study Henry VIII over in England but thats a dream not a plan happy

I admire your goals and ambition! When I came out of highschool, I had nooooo idea what I wanted to do with my life, as did many of my friends. But I wasn't vegan or into environmentalism/humanitarianism back then. Good that you've already got an idea of where you might want to go.

Would have loved to have done law, especially now that a lot of the unis offer Animal law. I've finished a BA @ uni of Sydney last year (majors sociology, cultural studies, and an informal major in gender studies), and I'm currently undertaking a postgrad in accounting.

Short term goal is to secure a stable job, earn mulah, support me family, gain experience, and then later down the track branch out my accounting experience to businesses and industry to do with environmentalism, human rights and/or animal welfare. Of the units I'm doing now, am really enjoying business law.

As for buying property...would love to do that, but won't happen anytime soon. Real estate in Sydney is ridiculously expensive. Might have to move elsewhere.

Good luck Taylor! happy

I'm in year 11 at school, I had ideas for a career but I've decided forget them. Instead I'm going to get a job, finish college, start working full time, save up for a house, and then begin property investment. If my plans work out, I should be financially capable of rescuing animals before I'm 30. (As in lots and lots of animals.)

I don't have a plan.  I've done a year of Mechatronic Engineering, a year of Biological Science, a year of Arts majoring in Journalism and Psychology and I've had a year off.  Now I am doing a second year of Arts, majoring in Sociology (so basically ethics, philosophy and how messy the world is :p).

I think that once I graduate I'd like to do a grad cert in Philosophy then maybe some animal care stuff through TAFE.  I'd like to help animals/people but I guess that's too vague of a goal and there aren't many paid jobs doing that.

I also have a sort of at-home job where I sew soft toys and make jewellery and sell it online and at markets.  If I'm lucky it will have grown enough to support me by the time I graduate happy.

I dropped out in year 10. Did a few odd jobs here and there and finally in the past few weeks got a full-time job, start on Monday. I don't really have a career plan, i don't want to work like normally people do, I'd rather work part time and enjoy the little things in life.

I'll take what comes to me, don't really mind what happens, my life doesn't revolve around money.

I'm 4 years out of high school now (scary, I know) and I've just been working to support myself with whatever I could. I didn't want to jump straight into uni after school because I had no idea what I wanted to do, and sometimes... still don't/
Since leaving school I've thought about English teaching, nursing, vet studies and journalism amongst other things.
I decided this year I was going to uni to stufy Zoology, which at this point is still my plan, I have to do a year of general study first, so i'll be starting that mid year.
I've also noticed lately how much I enjoy cooking/baking, that along with talking with someone who actually owns their own vegan bakery in the states (Jealous? I KNOW I AM!) I've been thinking about writing a cook book, or at least starting one, and maybe in the future might actually look into establishing my own vegan bakery/restaurant.

Unfortunately these days, work is life, so if you can, pick something you love doing!

I'm currently in my 3rd year of Environmental Science at UNSW. It's a fantastic degree, really flexible and we cover topics such as environmental law, economics and conservation. One of the reasons i picked the degree was to show the link between factory farms and environmental degrdation, further supporting reasons for people to go veg.

I do mostly plant and environment subjects as a got a bit grossed out by anything to do dissection, but i did oppose a dissection in first year on ethical grounds, which was taken to the head of the school which was really cool  clap

But when i graduate, im still not sure. maybe work in climate change issues? I'm doing honours next year, so we'll se where that takes me.  innocent
