By the way, I also sent them an email over a week ago but have not received any response. They're probably going, "where the hell did all these vegans come from?!" haha.

I always thought it would be law that they'd have to disclose all ingredients :S i dont know whether that naive of me, but i just assumed people were allowed to know what they were eating?

Dear Lydia

Thank you for your email to the NSW Food Authority dated 23 July 2011, concerning requests made to Easyway for their ingredients list to find out whether gelatin is an ingredient used in their teas.

There are particular requirements set by the Food Standards Code (Food Standards Australia New Zealand) with respect to information requirements for foods exempt from bearing a label. However, in order to determine whether or not the allergen information you have specified is mandatory to be provided upon request, I have put your enquiry through to our Labelling Team for an Officer to respond to you as soon as they are able.

The NSW Food Authority’s reference number for your enquiry is: 153840

Yours sincerely

Melissa

They're basically saying they're not sure if gelatine needs to be provided as an ingredient, by law (mandatory), when asked... So they're passing the request on to someone who deals with labelling. I'm not sure gelatine needs to necessarily be labelled (it's not if it's used for clarifying wines and beers etc). Regardless though, they should still be providing ingredients.

It's not just the gelatine I'm concerned about, it's also the ambiguity about whether they use ANY milk or animal products whatsoever (and their lack of response to me altogether). Dairy-free or lactose-free creamers could still have milk ingredients like casein.

I wonder if it would be taken more seriously if you say you avoid these things for religious reasons...

Dear ****

I refer to your enquiry regarding the need for sellers of Easyway tea to provide ingredient information.

Unfortunately, food law only requires the marketers to provide such information to consumers, which relates to the presence of the allergens that are specifically listed in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code); examples of products on that list are: nuts, milk, eggs etc.. Gelatine is not on that list.

Neither are the marketers required to provide information on the suitability of their products for vegans.

Thank you for raising this issue with the Authority

Yours sincerely

WHAT THE F**KKKKK.
i think he knew i was a vegan/vegetarian LOL but seriously guys.. for realz?
thats stupidity that they can't force people to give you the list if your alergic to things other than milk eggs and such. And its not legal for them to tell you if its vegan!?!

thats total bull

As much as I love easy way.. they're having an awful lot of trouble leting us know about some of their basic ingredients.....it's really kinda suspect.

I might enquire into other bubble companies like Chatime and see if they are a bit more helpful
