i think that hens and roosters should be set free and be free range not caged. it physical and mentally harms them. it also stresses them out. i only buy free range eggs and so should everyone else.
I have confirmation of this from an ex-farmer friend of mine: Free range isn't much better. Sure, there aren't cages, but the birds are crammed in a tiny barn, with hardly any room to move. They are trampled, often deformed and mutilated. These animals suffer too. The best way is egg-free.
chooks lay eggs anyway so why not rescue some- well thats what i did . the only time my hens and roosters are locked up is of a night so no foxes will get them
