This is a weird question to ask Veg*ns I know, but can anyone who can remember what Bacon tastes like tell me why it's so popular?
Did I miss some pop-culture reference or something?
I keep finding "funny" t-shirts or stickers that say things like "Vegetarian (except for bacon)"
It seems like Bacon and Cheese are the things that stop people from going Vegetarian and Vegan respectively.
Cheese I get, I did enjoy the sharp taste and the textures available (I'm a complete texture whore when it comes to food), but I don't see it as food anymore. I don't even know if I had ever enjoyed Bacon, but it has been a long time.
Is it just me? Did anyone else enjoy Bacon enough to justify sayings like this being so popular?
I've never had bacon before, I didn't even know what it was until I got to high school. When I first saw it I honestly thought it was a slice of fat...
Yeah I don't really get it either, from what I remember it has a really weird like chewy texture and it's just really fatty which is probably why people love it!
I used to like bacon before I stopped eating pigs. But I don't really think your missing out on much though…it tastes really fatty, or salty or something. Anyway, your not missing out on anything!
Bacon contains heaps of salt and certain studies claim that salt is an anti-depressant which perhaps leads carnivores to consume anything high in salt including yukky bacon...perhaps to hide their guilt in consuming pigs....only thing i could come up with.
Cutting tempeh into long thin slices is a vegan alt to bacon but i've yet to try it.
