Animal Derived Additives

I steer clear of:

- Gelatine
- Rennet (used in cheeses but I don't eat cheese anyway)
- Code 120 (crushed beetle shells- used in red colouring in lollies, drinks etc).
- Code 471 (can be animal or vegetable derived. Mainly in breads. I just stick to Helgas which is all good!)

Other than that I'm not too fussy thesedays.

EDIT: I think glycerin can be of animal or vegetable origin.

Well, the only thing I used to know was gelatine, but the rest sounds just as gross!


P.S Does anyone know whats in meat pies? Apparently its gross, but know one will tell me what it is.

Apparently it's all the unwanted stuff..  The 'insides'.

I think it's pretty much what's left after they've used the "good" meat, so gristle, necks, cartilage. yeaaah you can use your imagination, hah.

isinglass which is something taken from the float bladder of the Sturgeon fish. It's used to clarify beer and wines

Royal jelly - its a honey bee secretion used to feed bee larvae as well as the queen bee.

Watch out for E542 - bone phosphate. It can be found in some toothpastes and I think some white sugars.
