I saw a video on YouTube of someone with their pet fox. I noted a lot of comments from others users saying how it was wrong. What does everyone think?

I personally would LOVE to have a fox as a pet. There's someone in my neighbourhood that has a fox as a pet, i see him walking it frequently. They are just like dogs. They're sweet, I would love to have one. But i dunno how it would go with my rotty/bullmastiff tongue

I know that in most of Australia it's illegal to have a pet fox because they are classified as vermin. Law aside, I don't know what's intrinsically wrong with having a pet fox, except that from a strict abolitionist point of view 'having a pet' equates to possession of property - ie no one should have pets. Companion species on the other hand....

I wonder how you'd go about acquiring a pet fox? Surely if you tried to 'nab' one from the wild there would be serious repercussions for you.  happy

Maybe they had raised the fox from young, but even then there would be basic survival instincts in the fox and they may not be all that receptive to humans.

This is really interesting. I'm going to look for videos. happy

I'd love to have a pet Possum but that's just not ethical. Same with a fox. They aren't meant to be a pet and shouldn't be a pet, especially considering we have dogs in shelters who would love to be someones pet.

I think it would be okay, depending on the circumstances of how the person acquired the fox, and whether or not it can be released back into the wild. From what I have seen on the internet if you get a fox from a young age and raise them properly, they can become quite friendly and playful, kind of like a dog.
This is adorable ^_^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXy9QxKqUQo&feature=related

I don't think we need to domesticate any more animals.

Except our politicians. They are too wild in their liberties in pulling the proverbial wool over the public's eyes tongue

i ADORE foxes
i think they are beautiful and sure on occasion i've said i would love a fox,
but in the long run couldn't do it to them,
there is something about them that just belongs out in the wild to prance and run and live a fox life happily without any disruption from humans.
