I just waited til i actually decided to do it. And then when mum asked what i wanted for dinner, or said tea was ready. I just said "well ive stopped eating meat, is there veggies?"
I think it's easier just saying "ive stopped eating meat" than saying Im vegeterian
Good luck! I'm sure, if you can show them how important this is to you and that you are going to do it properly and help make the switch easy for them that they'll be supportive.
We're all here to help and to answer questions, so feel free to post again with any questions you have. And make sure to let us know how you go
I assume you don't think your parents will be very supportive?
Just tell them that you don't want to eat meat anymore, if they ask why just be honest. I know some parents can be fairly argumentative but just stick by it. It can be annoying and frustrating but it is your choice. My dad didn't really agree until this year (I'm 19) but he's very proud of me and has given up most of his meat. They'll come around and we're all here to support you!
When I went vegetarian I didn't really tell my parents. I lived with my dad at the time, and whenever he cooked meat I would cook something else for myself. Eventually he started making vegetarian food, and if he cooked meat, he would make the vegetarian version and serve that before putting the meat in.
Just tell them you'd like to give it a go for perhaps two weeks. And at the end of the two weeks, you could tell them that you'd like to permanently go vegetarian. They should be more 'accepting' because they've seen you go through the trial period.
Be honest, just tell them up front that you want to be vegeterian and that that's what you want to do, and just hope that they'll be supportive. I know that many people can be rude about others making choices to become vegeterian or vegan, but it is your choice and they can't force you to submit they they're way of thinking, just like you to them.
if you think your parents won't be supportive you could start by phasing out one animal at a time by telling your parents that you don't like it... maybe in the end you'll be vegetarian without them even realising it
