Would you do this?

Keen to hear your thoughts, but I'm pretty sure what your response will be.  I've been educating a workmate on veganism and he proposed something yesterday.  He said he'd donate $1000 to Animals Unleashed if I ate a double quarter pounder.  Would you do this for the donation?  I couldn't bring myself to eat this as it's totally contradictory to my beliefs and how do I have any integrity in educating others on veganism if I'm prepared to do this.  I said I'd post it here to get the thoughts of other vegans and animal lovers.

Nah I wouldn't eat it. I haven't eaten meat for 18 years so I just wouldn't be able to physically do it!

I'd say 'no'. I wouldn't ever give up my morals, plus I'd expect this person to joke about it to EVERYONE later and possibly not even go through with the promise of donating the money. I'd lose all respect for myself, and I'd expect everyone to mock me about that.

Sure he isn't just testing you to see if you 'sell out' your morals for money? We often accuse those who perpetrate animal cruelty of doing such a thing and while this isn't even on the same scale it can be used as fodder for a desperate omni trying to prove an ill-informed point. Plus I'd expect it to be brought up any time you talked about veganism and the like. Or maybe I'm just too cynical.

But a lot of my friends have made big bets and big proposals to see how much it would take for me to eat meat. I'm not sure AA would want a donation like that anyway? (I certainly wouldn't want AACT to accept a donation such as that).

I can understand why you'd consider it....but, would he ACTUALLY really seriously donate the $1000 for sure anyway?

You eating that meat is disrespect to the animal and putting other animals lives above the one you are eating, so they can be saved.

Eat one to save many? I don't think so. All animals are equals. Well, that is what I believe.

If your friend had any decency and he was actually listening to what you were saying about Veganism in the first place, he wouldn't be asking you to do this. That is disrespectful to you and to the animals.

Mm, I agree. I think its disrespectful of you and your values to even consider mentioning it.
