ive watched heaps of the dog whisperer tv shows and alot of well meaning people have super aggresive dogs too purely due to their own behaviour with their dog, good examples would be the episodes with chewowas that literaly are tryna kill other dogs and people even though they are the size of a mouse. now if those people have chewowas acting that way, imagine them with pitbulls or rotweilers. but banning pitbulls is just government wanting to appear to be fixing a situation when infact it does nothing. it makes me really mad becasue the original purebreed pitbull is the coolest dog ever :/ anyways i remmeber when i was 10 a white lab growling with full teeth out and tryna bite the hell out of me and their owners standing around doing nothing. i think i retreated away from the dog and someone eventualy grabbed him. i cant remmeber exactly but i didnt get bitten but i mean if you have a dog that tries to bite people, you have plenty of time to change yours and his behavior before he ends up killing someone, dogs are realy smart and just want guidence. its realy simple and about owners taking the responsiblity to make sure they know what they need to do so their dog grows up as a good dog.

Cant agree more. Many people are unaware of the mistakes that they make that could lead to an unstable, uncontrollable pet.
I wish the government and the industry would focus their attention on responsible pet ownership and making the rules for owning a dog, stricter. Better educating of owners and maybe making puppy school and some form of obedience training compulsory for ALL dogs. And also making the penalties tougher for when you do the wrong thing. Instead of using "Pit Bulls" as a scapegoat. BSL does nothing. Banning "Pit Bulls" won't stop all the other dog attacks.
A lady was just recently attacked by two German Sheperds. Yet no calls to ban them?

My sister and her husband bought two Staffies (actually they got them for free) They do not take them for walks or socialize them. They haven't registered either of them and don't have any plans to. All they want to do is breed from them to make money. These kind of stupid people are a big problem and produce bad dogs.

I just don't understand the way some people think.

My neighbour's Staffy is kept in a cage all day every day, he's left alone on weekends with no food, he's not desexed and he rarely gets to socialise with other people and dogs, and yet he's still perfectly friendly and affectionate when he's with people and dogs. I completely agree with what Nathan said about Pits being scapegoats.
BSL does not achieve anything. If you ban one 'powerful' breed, such as the Pit, the people who are attracted to them will just go for a different powerful breed, such as a Rotti, Staffy or Mastiff. And with BSL comes the death of many perfectly good dogs who have never hurt anyone.

Now, after that little rant, I might go take the poor Staffy for a walk and give him some dinner.

Maggie do the owners leave him without food every weekend? That's so horrible.

They always left him without food in the past weekends, but it seems this weekend they've filled his bowl up. So Chucky should be okay this weekend. He enjoyed a nice long walk tonight. happy

Chucky is so lucky that he has you to help look after him, but not so lucky that he has such terrible owners sad

You know, this is sorta off topic, but whenever I see people saying things like "Oh it's the pitbulls! They're naturally agressive. It's in their blood!" it reminds me of people saying the same thing about aboriginals.

"I bet it was the abos. They're always agressive, and I mean they can't help it cause it's in their blood!" - The exact words that someone said to me when we were discussing a robbery that happened in the area.

It's sad. Very, very sad.

Found this great Aussie site promoting education and not banning breeds. It's great to see people taking up the issue. It's got some good info. http://bslaustralia.org/
Check it out and spread it around happy

I'm thinking of trying to get a protest together, or even better, trying to get an animal protection group to put one together. I really want to do something about this, as it seems not many people are. You think it could work?

So by the end of next month, any unregistered suspected 'pitbull' dog in Victoria is going to be put down sad
No dna tests or anything, just if they are unregistered and look like a pit bull then they can be PTS.
This means pounds will have to PTS any unregistered pit bulls. So not only will many beautiful dogs be PTS, but they could also be peoples pets who may not have had them registered.

The thing that annoys me the most about all this is that dog might not have even been a pit bull!!! And even if it was, it was crossed with a mastiff.

Some more info on new laws here: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/new-laws-to-cull-evil-dogs/story-fn7x8me2-1226124880997

A lot of American Staffies and Staffy crosses will die for being misjudged as Pit Bulls. The government couldn't have chosen a worse way to go about this... People are so stupid.
