A lot of American Staffies and Staffy crosses will die for being misjudged as Pit Bulls. The government couldn't have chosen a worse way to go about this... People are so stupid.
I know it's absolutely ridiculous. That's exactly what the RSPCA is saying - a lot of completely harmless dogs are going to die.
The only good thing that is coming out of this is harsher fines and jail time for owners of aggressive dogs.

Need training and schools for people to go through before obtaining these dogs, better yet with any animal.

The Australian Veterinary Association has come out and said that its proven that strict, over regulating legislation actually exacerbates the problem because people go underground with it and the dogs are not socialised properly and an unsocialised dog is more likely to be aggressive and attack. I completely agree with their stance. Not socialising your dog is one of the biggest and most detrimental mistakes you can make. We need to free up the legislation on pit bulls and focus on real work to re educate people about how to raise and care for animals. Either that or we need to stop owning all dogs.

Absolutely right. Thousands of innocent American Pit Bull Terriers and dogs that look like "pit bulls" will be put down. It's disgusting. The RSPCA has said it's received dozens of calls from frightened people who are scared their dogs will be mistakenly killed by this.

Many professionals and organisations oppose BSL and instead believe it's how a dog is raised. These include Dr Kersti Seksel, Dr Katrina Ward and Dr Robert Holmes, RSPCA ACT boss Michael Linke, Australian Vets Association, Australian Companion Animal Council, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, American Veterinary Association, American Dog Owner's Association and many more. Here's a list of some more: http://www.defendingdog.com/id3.html

We really need to make it known that it's how an animal is raised and not the breed and that APBT and other banned breeds are not aggressive and make great pets. Even if you don't have an APBT, still spread the truth.

It doesn't take much for BSL to go even futher and include even more breeds. The American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier,  Rottweiler, Boxer, German Sheperd, Doberman, Collie, Labrador, ect. Where does it stop?

Sorry to keep posting on this, I just feel really passionately about it happy

Did the Pit bull 'search and destroy' thing start today? So sad, and so unnecessary. I wish I could save all the dogs who are going to die.

Any "Pit Bulls" that end up in pounds or shelters are put down.
Also under the new rules passed through parliament say any pit bulls or other restricted breeds not registered by September 30 will be seized and destroyed by local councils.

It also makes pit bull crosses a restricted breed.

Just to let people know, there is currently a poll on Yahoo asking if Rottweilers should be outlawed in Australia. Vote NO.
This is ridiculous. BSL will never stop, if we don't stand up.

OWNERS. i fully believe that a dog isn't made savage by its breed, it is the upbringing that it receives! i know so many dogs classified as 'dangerous' due to their breeds that r perfectly behaved dogs that r even fantastic with children! It makes me so mad when ppl immediately think a dog is scary because of it's breed or size!

I saw this on ATAAC's Facebook page. I thought I knew Pits quite well, but it still took me several attempts to find the Pit.
Give it ago, it really opens your eyes as to how much of a mistake the government is making by attacking 'Pit Bull type' dogs, because there's so many!
