Are you aware of what Fashion Week actually is? I have to ask. Fashion Week is basically the event all stores, department stores, boutique owners and buyers go to to pick trends to stock this season, directly off the catwalk.
If no fur is shown, that practically means that garment won't be stocked anywhere except the labels store( Maybe) Which means considerable animals saved=victory for animals.
I started off my activism with a vegan abolitionist organisation I saw no real improvements for animals. Since becoming heavily involved with PETA, I have been influential in several companies stopping their sale of fur, mulesed wool etc. This saves animals, one person going vegan ( while saving many many animals) does not have a wide reaching effect, getting a company with stockists worldwide to stop using fur saves thousands.

Also, I have met a lot of vegans who have gone vegan after coming across a peta anti fur demo, or live export stall.. They look at the website and become aware of other issues
To Cassie3, to answer your question - yes. But I also agree that it's completely irrelevant. When put in extreme situations many people would do things they wouldn't normally do if given a choice free from danger. It's about the survival instinct. Do we need a fur coat to survive in the middle of suburbia (heck in any community) in Australia? Or a piece of meat? Neg. Apples and Oranges.
Congratulations must go to the people who staged the demonstration - it must take a lot of courage to go and do what they did.
I think Follz raises some really interesting points and it's a debate you can get into forever and never reach an agreement. I don't think Follz is being wholly 'negative' about the issue - merely raising an alternative point of view which, sorry to say to those who don't agree, has some merit. I fear some people on here are reacting emotionally for one reason or other to those views and it shows in their inability to really address the points raised. Perhaps a second read through a neutral lens may get the point across.
Nonetheless, I again say well done to those that took part. Inspiring display of courage.
where on earth do you get this 'evidence' that all sheep are locked up. It is pure rot. Quite the contrary actually. Most sheep are free range. AA really needs to source much more reliable evidence to retain ANY credibility. Much of what is written here is an abomination of lies. Shame on you, you do no justice to animals when you talk through your hats.
I believe this was in relation to the 'fine wool' trade. Nothing was said about ALL sheep. Please enlighten us on these 'lies' and provide sources to back up your claims.
This protest was organised by a group of us who are all vegan. We do not support silk leather or wool. I myself have protested wool and now fur and leather will be next. These campaigns are successful as 2 designers have stoped using fur this year as part of protest and fur will not be in fashion week.
This is not a once off campaign it will be something we will stick at till other designers get the message and go fur free. Don't knock activists that are doing something rather than nothing at all. If your so opposed to our campaigns id love to hear your ideas.
As it stands this is a win for animals used for fur. Don't put a downer on this for the people who pulled it off and had a great outcome !
Do you have a source for these statistics? I'm interested to see them.

Being a vegetarian automatically means people differentiate between flesh and derivatives- where there is no difference. Statistics show, too, that 3 out of 4 people who go veg revert back to their former lifestyle. So, in reality, it means people still don't get it.
Secondly, voicing my opinion about this 'victory' is not negative - it's realistic. This is purely about peoples ego. I'm still waiting to hear why this is a victory and how even just one animal on a fur farm was helped.
You are entitled to call my opinion negative, but I'm a little too street wise to count these things as victories. I consider a victory someone going vegan, or even just having a great conversation with a carnist. There is no crime in that. Once you spend some more time around these single issue campaigns, you'll probably then understand my point of view.
Also you call a conversation a victory, but can't call a successful protest one?
