Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew any good quotes relating to animals.

Basically I am considering getting a tattoo done to remind me every day why I live the way I do, and that there's still stuff happening to them. So I will never forget (not that I will, Earthlings will forever haunt me!)

Even if you despise tattoos please can you help! (I am very ignorant to the tattoo world so if theres any type of ink or stuff that is cruel to animals please let me know!)

I wanted something along the lines of 'We must speak up for those that can't be heard' but more eloquently written...or if you have a better suggestion let me know!

Thanks happy

Probably not quite what you're looking for, but here are two great quotes:

"We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."
- Elie Wiesel

"First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me."
- Martin Niemoller

The only ones close to being a voice for animals I know off the top of my head are
"I'll take a stand for those who can't, I'll scream for those who can't speak"
"Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes"

A quote tattoo would be awesome!

Be sure to phone the tattoo artist and find out what ink they use. Some ink is not vegan - can contain animal bone char and/or animal fat.
http://www.unleashed.org.au/community/forum/topic.php?t=166

The following brands of ink are apparently vegan friendly:
-Intenze
-Skin Candy
(Now Bloodline)
-Eternal
-Good Color
-Starbrite
-Waverly
-Stable
-Alla Prima
-Fusion
(and there may be more too)

And here are some quotes:

“Unlike any other animal, you have a choice. You can choose to kill and destroy, or you can choose to save and create. I chose the latter.” ~ Edward Sanchez

"The taste in my mouth for five seconds does not equate to the beauty and complexity of life"

"Veganism is simply the acknowledgement that a fleeting and replaceable pleasure is not worth more than someone's life and liberty"

"Life is life--whether in a cat, or dog or man. There is no difference there between a cat or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man's own advantage." - Sri Aurobindo

"The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man." -Charles Darwin

"But for the sake of some little mouthful of flesh we deprive a soul of the sun and light, and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy."

"The animals you eat are not those who devour others; you do not eat the carnivorous beasts, you take them as your pattern. You only hunger after sweet and gentle creatures who harm no one, which follow you, serve you, and are devoured by you as the reward of their service." -John Jacques Rousseau

"Why can't humans appreciate animals for what they are and not what they can get from them? "

"One day the absurdity of the almost universal human belief in the slavery of other animals will be palpable. We shall then have discovered our souls and become worthier of sharing this planet with them." -- Martin Luther King, Jr

"It is not just that animals make the world more scenic or picturesque. The lives of animals are woven into our very being - closer than our own breathing - and our souls will suffer when they are gone." ~ Gary Kowalski

"When you see that the conscious life force in every creature is the same then you have the empathy, respect, compassion and love to refrain from harming or causing fear in others. "

"Animals have a past, a story, a biography. They have histories . . . each is a unique somebody, not a disposable something."

"I will not kill or hurt any living creature needlessly, nor destroy any beautiful thing, but will strive to save and comfort all gentle life, and guard and perfect all natural beauty upon the earth." ~ John Ruskin

" Man is truly king of the beasts for his cruelty exceeds all "

"An animal's eyes have the power to speak a great language." -Martin Buber

"No animal's life is less important than my own"

''Unseen they suffer, unheard they cry, in agony they linger, in loneliness they die."

"Live simply so that others may simply live."

"Poor animals! How jealously they guard their pathetic bodies…that which to us is merely an evening’s meal, but to them is life itself."
—T. Casey Brennan (1948–)

"When a chimpanzee mother comforts her frightened infant,we say that she is behaving like a human; when a human being resorts to insane violence,we say that he is acting like an animal. Perhaps it's the other way around..."
- Wayne Grady

"Animals and humans suffer and die alike. Violence causes the same pain, the same spilling of blood, the same stench of death, the same arrogant, cruel, and brutal taking of life."
-Dick Gregory

We all love animals. Why do we call some "pets" and others "dinner?"
~ K.D. Lang

"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages."
- Thomas Edison

"Animals are my friends, and I don't eat my friends."
- George Bernard Shaw

"The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men." -- Alice Walker

"You can't save every animal in the world but, for the one you do save, it IS the world."

Sorry for the long post  ashamed

I like that charles darwin one.

"We did not stroke cattle or sheep, or give them names and hug them; we did not encourage them to sleep at the foot of the bed; that was what seemed to count"

I like this one:

"So I am living without fats, without meat, without fish, but am feeling quite well this way. It always seems to me that man was not born to be a carnivore." - Albert Einstein

Read this one, has heaps of Einstein veggie quotes and sources given - which is important because wont believe you...

So far I am seriously considering one of these-

Live simply so that others may simply live

It falls on us to speak up for those who can't

We must speak up for those who can't be heard

I'll stand for those who can't and scream for those who can't speak. <- like this one but a variation to make it shorter would be cool. I'm getting it wrapped around my wrist and theres only so much space tongue

ecstatic

My first tattoo I got was a portrait of a lamb's face and I was going to get Jeremy Bentham's quote "The question is not, can they Reason? Nor, can they Talk? But can they suffer?"
Once I got the lamb done though I decided it had enough meaning without the quote…but I think I'll get it somewhere else eventually. It made me cry the first time I read it…!
I also have "Righting Human Wrongs" on the back of my neck - inspired by Lyn White's speech at the Ban Live Export Rally in August happy
