Haha I think he was quite sexy when he was younger (by younger I mean 5-10 years ago - did I just admit that?!!). Met him and got a book signed when he was last here!

as a christian i've looked into this quite a bit.

there are old testament stories that both condemn the consumption of meat (usually unholy 'types' etc) and others that promote it. As for Jesus, he caught fish, and ate fish at the last supper. It would be nice to say otherwise but that's what the scriptures say.

A nice argument is that in the garden of Eden, and therefore in heaven, we will all be vegetarian. "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them." Isaiah 11:6

Luke 24:42–43 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate before them.

just one of many examples. Jesus is a symbol of mercy and peace, he condemned animal sacrificing and i believe in no way would have encouraged animal cruelty to the extent we see it today. But he did not abstain from eating meat!

If anything he was pescetarian.

I remember in Scripture in primary school hearing about a story where he told people to put goats blood on all the door handles or some messed up shit like that....to me taking animal sacrifices is not something a vegetarian would do.

But if it makes Christians turn vegan or vegetarian then why not.

Yes, in one of the video responses someone quoted from exodus

"Exodus 12
The Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread
1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2 “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. 3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb[a] for his family, one for each household. 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. 5 The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 7 *******Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.******** 8 That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. 9 Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs. 10 Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. 11 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.

12 “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. "

But it's all good, most organised religions are well into just picking & choosing the bits of the bible they want to follow so lets just keep this on the down low and focus on the jesus was a vego thing wink

I'm a devoted Christian and have also looked into this...

Ideally I belive God would want us to be Vegans. I mean in Genesis 2:16 He clearly says to eat of trees and plants... doesn't mention meat... but as with every other sin, and every other horrible thing in the world (in my opinion) humans developed a taste for flesh after the Fall (i.e. Even and Adam disobeying God).. and although God doesn't want us to eat meat (just like he doesn't want us to lie, steal, murder etc) we do it anyway. But yeah, for my it's another one of those things that has become acceptable because people have done it 'for ages' and it's actually not in God's eyes at all.

But it really frustrates me that in my church I"m the only vegan my friend is a vegetarian, and everyone else 'COULDN"T live without meat" and "oh.. you're a greenie then are you??"

As with sooo many 'Christians' beliefs/thoughts and actions... they've interpreted the scriptures how THEY want to... they pick and choose what to believe and ignore the rest... while judging others for less vile things. I feel like I'm trying to win a loosing battle, both from a vegan front and a 'Christian' one... just so many people have it so wrong and it ruins it for those who are trying their best to spread the message! Grrr
