Personally I don't really support any of those charities. Honestly it's mostly because you don't really know where your donations are going. I prefer volunteering, that way you get to see exactly where your cash is going and you get to see first hand if it's really making a difference. I have mixed feeling about helping people in third world countries to acquire animals for either food or labour. On the one hand I absolutely hate that the creatures are considered property or food but on the other hand I know that those people have such difficult lives and most are starving and don't have the choices about food or lifestyle that we do. It's a conundrum. Ideally I'd like to see westerners stop over-consuming and the food distributed fairly but how likely is that? Humans are a selfish lot.

I'm a regular donor to both Oxfam and World Vision and at no time have I ever heard either of them refer to themselves as animal welfare groups. What do you expect? There are far greater evils for you to concern yourself with.

I personally would never donate an animal but I wouldn't avoid supporting the charities altogether either because like everyone else has said, they do not have the luxury of 'choosing' not to eat meat. You'd be amazed what you are capable of in a situation where it is kill or be killed... I bet the majority of vegetarians/vegans would eat an animal product if it were a choice between that or death. As much as we all like to assume we would never do it... it's human instinct to want to live.

I thought the same thing a few years ago as a vegetarian "Why the f%#k would anyone send an animal to it's slaughter? Grow some vegies!" when I saw a site for one of those charities but, even though I am vegan now I do understand that in 3rd world countries they can't be fussy eaters. They can't 'choose' not to eat anything, they either eat what they can or they die. I still wouldn't donate an animal because I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing so, but I don't believe in not supporting those charities at all because of it either, because they do some wonderful work. I just don't really support World Vision because I've heard World Vision don't donate much of their profit to helping the disadvantaged countries.

'homeless meateaters waste of space oxygen thieves'
So basically you're saying that non vegan/vegetarian people who are homeless are wastes of space? Charming.
Also, common sense is key. Of course they're not going to send humans overseas for impoverished people to consume. That's called cannibalism, and as Willy Wonka says, it is in fact frowned upon in most societies.
Plus, humans are animals too, like it or not. So it still wouldn't be a necessarily vegan practice.

And you didn't 'just join', according to your profile you joined on the 9th of May last year.

what a bunch of misserable low grade vegans...absolutelt totaly full of shit...how the f**k can you agree with sending animals over seas for the starving kids...if they fed the homeless meateaters waste of space oxygen thieves to the hungry kids then there would be no problem
how can so called vegans that are vegan because of their love for animals even think about doing this WORLD VISSION can kiss my arse...they will never het a cent from me>>>>GO HAYLEY AND JACK .....love you guys
One way to convince your audience of your position is to spell correctly. The next is not to swear at them. After that is actually knowing what the hell you're talking about. Read the replies to Hayley's thread. Would be quite educational for you. But I guess you don't want that. You just want to be mad and think you have the 'right' due to this emotion to be rude.
