From my knowledge, Japanese mayonnaise is a mayonnaise with Asian origins that uses different ingredients from the Western version, and therefore, tastes different. Both versions use eggs though, so it's no good for a vegan. :/
I'm also aware that it has MSG in it, like a lot of other Asian foods.
That chemical has a lot of negative controversy behind it, as it's considered a flavour enhancer that directly affects your taste buds (in short terms, it's basically viagra for your taste buds).
I've heard lots of stories about it, like it being harmful to the central nervous system, and directly damaging nerve cells within the brain.
But whether they're true or not, and whether MSG is truly harmful to our bodies is open to debate.
(Still, I try to avoid it like the plague; but then again, perhaps it's only harmful in large quantities).
Most sushi I've found that's pre-brought contains it though, hence my dilemma.
