That's okay Shani, can I ask what kind of Kangaroos they are? And if they're tame? I love Roos. tongue
i think they are the eastern grey kangaroo? i will see if i can get a picture of them. there not really tame, i just put the food down and walk away and they came over happy
We have the Eastern Greys at the Sanctuary too. I love them, they all have different personalities.

Do you have chicken pellets? Or any type of pellets that you feed your animals? Kangaroos love them, if you set up a feeding spot, and feed them at the same times every day, eventually the Roos will learn to be at the feeding spot every time.
And make the 'tut tut tut' noise with your tongue when you're near them, that's how they communicate. (Might not be a good idea if a male is around!)

Sorry for all the info, I just wish I was lucky enough to have kangaroos on my property. ecstatic
i really appreciate your advice maggie happy ... i dont know if there is any males... there is 2 females and there joeys and a half grown kangaroo - not sure what sex.  yes i do have chicken pellets. what sanctaury do you work at?

In massive numbers as they currently are they despoil the land like no other animal. When eating they pull young grass out by the roots.  They need a certain amount of dirt in their diet thus this habit.    Mind you if you follow a vegan/vego lifestyle this possibly does not concern you but if you accept that there will always be a majority of consumers who eat meat you will then accept that there has to be balance.  Kangaroos consume grass in higher amounts than a sheep, obviously they don't eat as much as a bovine.  If you were to count the kangaroos on our property you would reach a four figure number before you got out of the Horse Pd which is not very big I can assure you.  They are here in their thousands.  Then in drought times we are the poor mugs who put them out of their misery when we find them bogged in waterholes etc. As I said in my previous post their natural mob life is now turned upside down by so called experts who wanted to appease the conservationists and get re elected.  What a mob of asses.

please dont go off at me, but when i see people say " we should cull humans, becouse there is more of us .. ect ect" you sound kinda stupid. when you say that to people who dont share the same veiws as us you should like a crazy "hippy" ... you give us a bad name. just thought i would share
obviously we don't believe in killing.. and the only reason we said anything about a human cull is to illustrate how hypocritical people are being...
now who looks "kinda stupid"

stop swallowing all the information you are being spoon fed by the media and the corporations..
human culls DO happen, and it's for one reason

It's pretty easy to tell males from females, the males are about twice the size of the females, and they have testes behind their cloaca. I like the males more, they seem to have more personality.

I work here, but I'm leaving next week. I might volunteer still, as I love the animals so much. http://www.bonorong.com.au/index.html

i dont belive in killing, why else would i be vegan? why else would i rescue livestock from the dairy, wool, egg, horse  racing industrys ect?  why would i go to cattle sales and expose the cruelty invovled? why would i take time out and help re-home homeless cats, dogs, cattle, horses ect? why would i campaigne for animals? i dont belive in killing but what i was trying to say is that by saying things like " we should cull humans becouse we are overpopulated ect" we turn people off our cause!. you give animal activist a bad name and stregthen the sterotype we have! you have to have a balence - a certain point that we can come to a agreement. weather you like it or not. becouse not every1 will agree with what you have to say.

so who"s " kinda stupid" by enfourcing the vegan sterotype? for turning people off our cause?

did i say human culls dont happen? no

The stereotype of "vegans don't care about people" comes from the uneducated who don't understand resource distribution. Until they ARE educated, they most likely will assume that vegans "are ungrateful" for what they have instead of realising that their steak took 15,000 liters of water to create. The only thing enforcing this stereotype is ignorance.

People are turned off the cause, as I've said before, because they think if they educate themselves or change their views then somehow their cruelty will no longer appear justified to them (even though cruelty is never justified.)

The thing is, as also previously mentioned before, humans are first and foremost speciesist. This is why people felt that the PETA campaign saying the 12 million animals slaughtered for food ever 4 hours is akin to the  holocaust (which took 12 million lives total) was diminishing the impact of the holocaust or trivializing the holocaust. The illustration of using humans is because humans identify mostly with humans. People fear they might be "converted" if they start having an emotional connection to animals or treating animals as a life instead of you know... slaughtering millions each hour or raping cows for milk.

i never said anything about your beliefs.. or even insinuated that you believed in killing..
how could it turn people off the cause? alot of people like to argue for the sake of arguing.
they are being close minded by thinking the only option is to kill
NOT US
this is a vegan forum (essentially) i come on here to speak with like minded people who have the same beliefs and values as i do.
using an example of a human cull is EXACTLY that, an example to prove a point.
i don't care about if i look like a "hippy"

you are being rude and i do not appreciate it. i do not give animal activists a bad name, or reinforce any stereotypes.
i know not everyone will agree with what i have to say, and i don't need to agree with what they have to say either.
it is about respecting another opinion and being open minded.

and this is a totally different topic to veganism, this is about culling of roos
culling which i find even my omni friends are against (some of them)
i try to keep my veganism off of facebook for exactly that reason, because i don't want to be thought of as a crazy vegan stereotype..

In short, shame on humans lol. Anyways, I'm just a stupid 15-year-old who doesn't know what the hell she's talking about (about 90% of the time)
please don't devalue your own opinion, obviously you know what you are talking about
:p i mean it is your opinion, and if you don't believe in your own opinion
how is anyone else going to :p

i am with you, i believe if the entire world went veg it would solve alot of problems, it would not however solve the issue of human overpopulation.. sad
our population is going to continue to rise, just like the roos
and if we enforce a law of how many children you can have, that takes away a right we deserve which is the freedom of choice.

I think using the human population and human cull as an example is fine. Obviously no ones saying we should shoot a bunch of people. It's just an example. And a validated one.

What annoys me is humans are so quick to label an animal species as a 'pest' and 'destructive' and blow millions of them off the face of the earth. And that many Aussies seem to have hate for our kangaroos. I find that sad.
Yet we humans are growing at a scary rate. We have now reached 7 BILLION. With predictions we could get to 10 BILLION by 2050. And we are by far the most desructive species. When will we stop?

If there is a population problem with a particular species, we are the ones that caused it! Same thing with introduced species. So many people hate them and think it's ok to use cruel practices to control them. It is not their fault, they are simply doing what they do. We're the ones that brought them over here and created the problem.

There are surely other ways to solve problems, besides just shooting them.

Anyway that's all I'm saying. This thread is just gonna go back and forth. No ones going to change their position. Keep it friendly happy
