. The removal of dew claws is legal, which is something I cannot make sense of.
My 7th month old St.Bernard Pup "Duke" got his dew claws removed 2 weeks ago when he got de-sexed. To not remove the dew claws can cause extreme discomfort and pain to the dog. They serve no purpose and as the pup grows so do the dew claws and can physically injure the dogs when they walk, run and play. To not remove the claws is cruel. Duke has not once shown any signs of discomfort or pain from them been removed. His balence in his hind quaters has improved when he runs and plays, the claws were beginning to rub and break the skin around the area where they sat, now the hair has grown back and his sores are gone. Out of the 10 vets in my area i consulted, not 1 of them said to keep them.

Personally i find it extremely cruel not to remove them.

^ Interesting. I have never even heard of the removal of those claws before.
All of my dogs dew claws do not touch the ground and have never cause them any discomfort.
Is that a more common problem with St Bernards?

Firstly, do you realise that dew claws on the hind legs are extremely uncommon? They only occur on some large breed dogs. The procedure is purposely named to deceive you. 'Dew claw removal' sounds like just the claw is being removed, when in fact, the procedure is an amputation of the entire joint, it's the same as amputating your little toe. Dew claws can be maintained if they are regularly clipped, my dog didn't have hers clipped until she was 11 years old, and we've never had issues. In St Bernards, they only need to be removed if they're interfering with the dog's walking techniques at the show. Otherwise, breeders recommend you keep them.

I know some breeders who refuse to remove their dogs' dew claws, because they don't like the way the puppies scream...

dewclaws are a weak digit, barely attached to the leg, so that they can rip partway off or easily catch on something and break, which can be extremely painful and prone to infection with can kill the dog. I dont know about other dogs but with Dukiie"s dew claws they were effecting his walking and running, they were hurting him, Not one person said to keep them, even his breeder reccomended to get them removed ~ I rang every St.Bernard breeder in NSW, QLD, VIC and SA and they all said to remove the claws as they can get caught on things and be pulled off, Which would be extremely painfull for Dukiie. The claws were also rubbing off his hair and skin causing discomfort for him.

When do the puppies scream? Duke never screamed. The claws are removed when the dog is under anisetic so they dont know what is going on. When dukiie came out of the surgery he ran as fast as he could and licked us all over, wagging his tail and with a large grin on his face ecstatic

Even our family friend who is a vet and volenteers for the RSPCA said all puppies with dewclaws that come in are removed as they are a hazered that can hurt the dogs

Okay turns out she is American and has just moved to Hawaii. Not sure why the ad says its in Australia, but she's not from here. This is the reply I got:

Hello ,
Thanks for your willingness to adopt my puppies . I have just 2 puppies left . The puppies are 12 Weeks old at the moment . My babies are A.K.C Registered , Checked every week ends by our Vet doctor and shall be going into their new home with all health papers , a health guarantee , all playing toys and clothing , puppy beds , feeding menu and all other accessories since i shall not be needing them when they get to their new home . I prefer the puppies going into the same house since they are already used to each other but getting just one puppy will be no problem OK . My puppies are Potty and Home trained , Well socialized and they love to be treated with so much love , care and attention so if you are sure of providing them with that , then i can say your house is best for them . They love to play very much and they understand some basic commands and they are also very willing to learn more . My reason for giving them out for adoption is because i just relocated to Hawaii  for a new job which keeps me very busy and will be moving into a new apartment were pets are not allowed , so my husband and i decided to find a home that will take very good care of the puppies . It shall take some couple of hours for the puppy to arrive your location and delivered to you at your home and It will only cost you $180 for one of them to be transported to your home right at your door step  if you will be taking two then , it will cost $300 ,OK . and that's all you shall be spending to get them puppies.I am interested in knowing how their new home will look like so more information and if possible pictures of your home will be highly appreciated .Just to let you know how they are going to be when fully grown up,
The standard weight of the parents is  7 pounds ie 4lb and 5lb ,the  Height:  6-7 inches (15-17½cm.), just to let you know that The Breed Yorkie is a good dog for apartment life. They are very active indoors and will do okay without a yard. The Yorkie is sensitive to the cold and prefers warm climates. They has a Life Expectancy of About 12-15 years. Also I will like to ask you some few questions :

1... Are you a breeder ?  or do you intend breeding them ?
2 ... Have you been keeping pets ?
3....Are you married ?
4 ... Do you have children ?
5....Who are you getting the puppies for ?
6 ... How soon do you need the puppies ?
7.....Which sex are you interested in ?
8 ... Where are you located ?
9 ... Your phone number ?
10.....How old are you ?
11....What do you do for a living ?
12.....Are you a Christian ?
13.... Do you promise to take good care of the puppy ?
thanks and waiting to read back from you

Not sure why religion is relevant but whatever. She didn't answer my question about tail docking so I assume this is just a template email she sends out to people.

All in all she sounds like a normal registered breeder, she does care about her puppies and I can't see anything wrong in the photos. I assume its legal there.

She sounds better then some breeders but still, tail docking? advertising them as teacups?
I wonder how much proof of all these checks she would be able to provide....

Yeah I'm really not okay with the tea cup or tail docking thing. But people think dogs are accessories so make them as "cute" as they can.
