I'm sorry but King Worms freak me out at the best of times (I am usually holding them in tweezers forcing them down the throat of a magpie!) but having them in a lolly that is apparently ok to consume? WTF?

I absolutely hate meal worms. They seriously freak me out.  I think eating a lolly with one in it would be enough to kill me. If I never have to touch a meal worm again, I will be very happy.

And chocolate covered bugs in a petri dish? Seriously? I can't believe people are actually buying this stuff.

I would consider it for a gag gift if I wasn't a vegan.... I know a few people who would get a laugh out of it, but wouldn't eat it... but then again I do know someone who would probably try it just to say they've done it...

Love how everyone is missing the point, esp with hate ecstatic

SO great ^____^

bahahha so basically you're vegan because animals are gross...

sugar ants and petrified worms, solidified ponies and a giant barnacle horse.

But yeah this is pretty wrong, ask her politely if she breeds here own,
or goes around the amazon collecting new species and making snacks out of them,
before sending too much hate mail.

love is my only advice

Unless you don't eat Soy then it isn't hypocritical

Good morning,

My name is Skye and I am the one in the video that you posted. I don't really understand why you would want to send me hate mail. You do understand that there are people in the world that have different views to your own? Do you send everyone you know that is not vegan hate mail?

For the record I work very hard to promote the conservation of bugs in our ecosystem. I run a forum that helps educate people about Australian invertebrates, I travel around Australia teaching school children how important bugs are for our ecosystem (and teach them ways that they they can make a difference), I designed a range of insect life cycle kits which are used in most schools throughout Australia and I breed butterflies specifically to be release into the environment (to help increase the populations of butterflies in the wild). I am currently running a program to identify areas where butterflies are found in Australia, and this project will help determine if there have been any decline in butterfly numbers, or if they have simply shifted their habitats.

On my farm we recycle all of our wasted use recycled water and even reuse the bug poop as fertilizer.

Part of my business is selling edible bugs, we breed these bugs specifically for human consumption, we no not sell live edible bugs, they are killed humanely before we send them out to our customers so that we can guarantee they do not suffer.

Bug farming is actually quite environmentally friendly. It uses much less space, requires little water or other natural resources, has much less carbon dioxide and methane output and the bugs themselves are very high in protein and other minerals.

I understand that bugs may not be everyones cup of tea, but you have to understand that being vegan isn't the way for everyone either. There are people out there that eat meat, and there are people that choose to eat bugs.

Before you talk about sending out hate mail, you should think about how that will affect other people. I work over 50 hours per week to help educate and make sure our bugs are treated in the best possible way. I have a family and a new baby. If you hate what I do, that's fine...but you can keep it to yourself.

How many people on unleashed have already admitted to still killing spiders, cockroaches, ect anyways?

I know they're still animals and you could say its as bad as killing a cow (though I doubt many could truly think that, we're are all specists to a degree), but I don't think hate mail was really necessary.

Just a email, curiously asking about the insects and what she actually does could have had the same result.

I'm terrified of spiders but i still make a good effort to "escort" them out of my house or ignore them til they go into hiding.

I think that breeding ANY living creature purely for human consumption is wrong. Not ok for cows? Not ok for bugs.

I don't agree with it, I just think there's no reason to send hate mail about it.

So she has difference views than us, but isn't she still doing a lot towards conservation and education people about insects (that would probably save more than she kills)? That has to at least even out her evilness a little right? tongue
