Sometimes Palm Oil is labeled Vegetable Oil, which is the case for Nuttelex.
It annoys me so much that they're allowed to list it under the broad spectrum of ' vegetable oil'. If lots of people were allergic to palm oil they'd be made to list it, but if it causes environmental destruction and the killing of the last of the worlds orangutans, who cares?! If the product doesn't list the specific types of vegetable oils I just dont bother buy it... or I email the company. I have spoken to nuttelex and they confirmed that some of their vegetable oils are palm oil but from a sustainable source.
Anything that is listed as generic "vegetable" oil probably contains palm oil.
These websites also give you a good run-down on the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil). This organisation is hugely controversial and it is debatable whether it is trust-worthy. For one thing, many of the stakeholders on the roundtable are palm oil producers; for another there is no mandate to encourage producers to move to sustainable production, only "recommendations". I believe we are a long way off from sustainable palm oil production, and it is best avoided.
