I dont understand vets that are meat eaters either!
I dropped out of vet science at uni because I felt like I was the only one doing it for the benefit of animals. Even the university only seemed to be teaching us how to make money from animals. This is definitely a topic for a whole new thread, but many vets will still put animals down if they're born by a breeder without the breads exact specifications (eg a ridgeback without a ridge, which apparently happens for about 1 in 4 ridgebacks)!
My local animal welfare centre recently had a sausage sizzle to raise money for their centre and 'saving' animals... Are we eating animals to save animals now??
I know RSPCA do work for meat animals as well as the fluffies/domestic animals. Are other animal welfare centres under any obligation to do this or is their an authority that could 'have a word' with them?
the meat used for fundraising sausage sizzles is generally donated- so it's a way for an organisation to get 100% profit.
it's hypocritical, but it's relatively time effective and doesn't require much man power.
You've really touched a nerve for me with this one Shelley-Sea-Shells. There aren't a lot of vegetarian or vegan vets around so the rest isn't really surprising. I'm disappointed that celebrity vets who are more popular than ever these days do not use their powers for good when it comes to animal rights issues. Just look at the latest Purina ad featuring a pretty young vet - every dog is a perfect example of designer breeding. No pound pooches there!
There is very little paid employment available for the educated genuine animal lover.

I agree! Even steve irwin wasn't a vegetarian. Imagine the impact that someone like Dr Chris Brown could make if he was a vego

*cringes* that guys an idiot.
But I do wish he'd go vego. People like him could make a great impact.
As for the topic, well if it was donated... I guess it's ok. Seems these organizations only really care about companion animals. Like the RSPCA, meant to be the best group for animals. Yet they promote barn laid eggs?
They should try a vegan bbq. I'm sure a company would help them out and lower the price a bit if they knew what the product would be for.
There are many great vegetarian sausages out there now.
There is a guy in Brisbane who runs Hellhound Dogs and has a vegetarian hot dog stand in Brisbane city during the evenings. He sells those Redwood hotdogs and people do not even know they are eating vegetarian most of the time.
I am involved with campaigning against greyhound racing but I refuse to be invovledin any fundraising involving cruelty to animals.
The group that I am forming to campaigning against greyhound racing will be all cruelty-free and only vegan products willi be used to fundraise.
The thing is - often those welfare groups are "cat- dog" people. They love cats and dogs but eat pigs and wear cows. So fundraising with dead animals doesn't seem weird to them at all.
Problem is that not many people would eat Tofu flavoured sausages which would defeat the purpose of having a fund raiser, I don't like eaten Tofu etc, so would not be attending a fund raiser that was selling this. the idea of the fund raiser is to increase $$$ not decrease them. I know it does sound abit hypo-critcal but I love animals but also enjoy my meat-chicken/lamb/pork. But yes I think they could have more food options but again having more food options and other options like games are expensive and therefore defeat the purpose of having the fund raiser.
