When I lived in Canberra as a kid they used to come in the our yard and go through our bins even though we had a big dog. I guess they liked each other. They never caused any trouble save from us having to pick up rubbish they'd kicked everywhere!
The alpha-male was absolutely huge and as a kid I knew not to get too close to him. They were harmless though.
It's a pretty safe bet that most of those people weren't just standing around minding their own business and were probably doing something incredibly stupid at the time of their ''attacks". Feeding them, chasing them or something.
