What do you guys think about pitbulls? Do you believe they are really aggressive? What do you think of bsl? (Breed specific legislation, which puts restrictions or bans on certain breeds)
Personally I don’t agree with banning pitbulls, as it’s the owner not the breed who makes a bad dog. People think they were bred to kill anything, when they were only bred to fight dogs, not any other animal. A well trained, socialized and exercised pitbull can be a friendly, loyal companion. I think it’s really sad that people want them to be wiped out, all because of the media (often the media doesn’t have a clue what a pitbull looks like, they are so often mislabeled.) The media seems to love them to, I notice when anything that looked remotely similar to a pit bull is usually labeled as such “a pit bull attack, yet when it’s another breed they usually refer to it as just a “dog attack”. They used to be known as nanny dogs that were great with kids, until idiots started owning them. Any dog has the potential to attack, it all depends on how they are raised, trained and taken care of.

Bsl has proved ineffective in other countries that have tried it. I think instead we should be focusing on educating owners and kids on how to take care of dogs properly, how to approach dogs and act around them etc

What do you guys think about bsl and the effected breeds?

Also, can you find the pitbull?:

There have been numerous conversations on this topic.
I'm anti BSL and have no issue what-so-ever with Pitties. It's media exaggerated bullsh*t. peace
Once the pitties are banned next thing you know the rest of the bullbreeds will be attacked.

I think we should restrict the humans not the dogs.

I don't really have a problem with banning breeds. The problem I have with the Victorian legislation is that if the owner doesn't get their dog registered then the dog gets put down as opposed to punishing the owner (that's my understanding, sorry if I'm wrong). If we just put a time limit on it and said no more pitbulls after 2030 I'd be fine with that.

A lot of people carry on as if they care about the dogs, but what they're really complaining about is them not being able to get the kind of dog they enjoy.

I'm in favour of making it super hard to get pit bulls.
So unless you absolutely love the breed and go through a bunch of red tape you cant have one.
Banning breeds sounds like genocide to me.
The only problem is that if the meat heads cant have pit bulls they will just cross breed another powerful form of dog. Or train their staffy to be aggressive.

Pit bulls were bred to be aggressive and good fighters.  I get the feeling they're not a very stable dog, but then again, maybe that's been bred out of them

There have been stories of golden labs mauling kids... are we going to ban them???

Clearly it's the owner, not the dog.

I don't like the idea of banning a breed, not just because I think pitbulls can be great dogs if raised well, but also because there are a lot of similarities between pit bulls and other bully dogs (like english staffies, amtaffs etc.) that we would probably end up in a similar position to some American states where they have banned several breeds of bully dogs just because they can't tell them apart from pit bulls.

I have trouble understanding how they would regulate a law such as this. Would they put any pit bulls down if they were bred after a certain date? Would people be allowed to own pre-existing pit bulls?
How are they going to determine if a dog is a pit bull or not? If they are going to base it solely on what a dog looks like, and not by their genetics, then a lot of other breeds are going to be negatively affected by this as well.

Banning a breed of dog is the governments lazy way out. Stricter dog owning laws, compulsory training courses, and harsher owner penalties is what is needed.

A bit racist I think, once again the sickily human race trying to exert it's power.

I grew up with a Pitbull and it loved children. Patch never bit any of us once, in fact he had the best nature and so did his owner happy

I believe that either the way the dog is raised (to be agressive) or that children are not taught how to behave around dogs.

Screen Test the owners haha!!!

All those families without their friends now because of a couple of nimwits.

I think it is ridiculous that they are killing dogs just because of... whatever. Killing dogs is brutal enough.
