Im sorry that the dog and you are in this situation - its kinda like the situation im in at the moment. My local area isnt as small as yours but its still a small rural town with a pop. 3,000. i would have to say about 89% of the people here are farmers ( beef, dairy and eggs ) I have been to the local sale yards a few times now to investigate, ive seen cattle in the most appauling conditions esp dairy cows and calfs.

Some things ive seen at the sales are:
Cattle been prodded around when they have broken legs.
Cattle dying and been shot at the yards
Cattle giving birth at the sale
Cattle with large open wounds with maggots in them
Cattle with cronic Mastitis
Cattle unable to walk or stand and they are still put through the sale
Cattle with udders so big and sore that they are dragging on the ground
Calfs dying and been shot
Dairy calves younger then 5 days old been put through the sale ( One calf i rescued there was a day old ) The code of practise states they have to be older then 5 days old.
Dairy calfs so enemic that they are fading in and out of conscience ( one of the ones i rescued was doing this )
Calfs with broken legs been thrown into trucks
Cows and calfs been beaten with metal polls

I recorded alot of this on camera but my computer crashed so i lost it, but i am going back this Thursday and Saturday when the sales are on to record it and hopfully send it into Animals Australia as the RSPCA wont do anything about it, i even had them there the day i rescued Bugsii and Bambii and they did nothing!! The DPI also said that it is unbelevable that Bugsii and Bambii were 1 and 3 days old when they were sent to the sale even though i sent them copies of there purchase papers that had there date of birth and the date of sale and purchase.

I have to be incredably careful here as some people around here are a little crazy  scared
And iw ouldnt want to put my family, friends and animals in danger. I feel your pain. One day when i went to the sale i watched as a "used" dairy cow was been put through the auction, she couldnt stand, she had a massive open wound on her left shoulder and her udder was so swollen and ozzing blood and pus, they got a electric prod and started prodding her, laughing and hitting her with metal polls. I yelled out from the side line " Stop hitting her, cant you see she cant get up!!" they turned and smiled and said " Go away little girl, You dont know anything about cattle, this is how you get them up" i replyed "No i will not go away, ive grown up with cattle and on a farm and that is not how you get them up" the man said " F**k off" I watched one, secretly recording and after 2 minutes they stopped, they went and got a forklift and pushed her, she cryed out in pain and they tryed to lift her up with the forklift but she fell off and i think she might have broken her themia bone. They eventually pulled her to the slaughter truck and she was transported off with the other cattle. I wish i had enough money on me to get her cry

Dear Oinkmoo

Oh, dear, how terrible!  How absolutely terrible!  The cruelty seems to go on and on and on once you become aware of how much there is around.

How great you were able to really get in there and force yourself to record the cruelty.  It must have been an ordeal.  Surely there are laws about all that?  I'm sure Animals Australia will be able to tell you if there's anything we can do.  Where have people's sensitivites gone to?  Why do they not see the cruelty they are inflicting?  I cant understand it.

The first dog my neighbour shot was because he was in a very weakened state but had climbed up on top of this corrugated iron they'd put there, forced by the RSPCA to provide a shelter, and been unable to get down so had no water and no food for a week.  It coincided with all that rain we had in NSW a few weeks ago.  I heard him crying and I phoned the police but they didnt come when I explained what had happened.  Then I phoned the RSPCA and the inspector then told me he was glad the dog was dead and out of it all at last.  But, the point is, why couldnt he have taken the dog away from them on one of his visits?  It was skin and bone.  Then the second dog I was unable to reach.  It was too far into the garden so all I could do is try and toss food to it but I stopped doing that when I realised it was cruel to do so because it couldnt reach it.  He shot that one, too.  The inspector then said, they are allowed to shoot a dog as long as they only use one bullet!  It just makes you feel so hopeless, doesnt it.

Going back to your terrible story, could you expose them by contacting a Current Affair?  The thing is, you, too, must be careful because people could cause you some damage.  I know some of the people here remind me of that movie, Deliverance!

Well, just a postscript to my other posts.  I went into the neighbour's back garden this morning to throw some food over to the dog and the owner must have been waiting for me.  I got back to my house and heard him come out, drag the dog away from the fence and lob the food back into the neighbour's garden.  Lots of shouting going on and I then phoned the police to ask them what I could do.  They told me to keep away from the dog and that it wasnt my dog and I should mind my own business.

I think I care too much, that's the trouble.  I feel ineffectual.  This isnt the first time I've tried to help an animal that belongs to somebody else.  It has never got me anywhere but succeeded in making the animals care for me when I cant really offer them very much at all except for the odd bit of food and a kind word.  This is what I meant by my heading.  For all that there are people here who love and care for their animals in the bush, there are triple that amount that keep animals for reasons that are beyond me.  The RSPA Inspector told me he asks himself time and again why they have dogs when all they do is put them in their yard, put a chain round their necks and throw them the odd bone now and again if the dog's lucky.  There seems to be no reward for these owners so why do they keep a dog?  I think it must be a power thing, being able to subject a poor animal to whatever treatment the owner decides to dish out!  I feel disgusted!

Sorry to hear about all this Del. It's heartbreaking. I would be in the exact same position as you if I was in this situation.

I think you should be careful with your own pets. You don't want this psycho doing anything to them. Make sure you keep them inside when you go out.

Not sure what you can do about the dog though... sticky situation.
The only thing I can think of is stealing it and taking it to a far away shelter. But then you will have retaliation to worry about... I don't like to say this, but, sometimes you just have to take a step back.

This mentality bothers me beyond comprehension. If a child was being neglected, you would step in and call the authorities, if YOU were being neglected or abused, you would wish for someone to step in and call the authorities. For animals, it just so happens that the authorities don't care/don't have enough resources/see animals as property, so it's a cruel predicament.

Have you tried contacting Animal Liberation NSW?

1800 751 770

Voiceless suffering - animals desperately need your help
Animal Liberation NSW has introduced an anonymous free-call number for people who witness animal cruelty in rural areas. Until now, concerned citizens who witness cruelty have had to leave their personal details with their complaint. This unfortunately leads to some cases going un-reported due to fear of retaliation.

If you witness instances of animal cruelty / neglect and wish to remain anonymous, by calling 1800 751 770 you can help to end unnecessary suffering for our voiceless friends.

I'm in the same situation at the moment. The dog I am trying to help is a german shephard size dog & is only about 6 months old. She is a beautiful dog with the most gentle nature about her, that I can't understand why she is chained up all of the time. She can NEVER get to her water, IF THEY GIVE HER SOME, or food for that matter, she is FAR TOO THIN & most certainly underfed. The owners are only there 2-3 times a week & I've Never seen them feed her or give her water. We have 2 beautiful cats & only cat food in the house, but we've been feeding her & she loves it. We live in a block of units & so do her owners & her, (of course), & we all have a VERY small, FULLY FENCED  back yard. These people moved in here about 8 weeks ago & we have only ever ONCE seen anyone pay any attention to this poor puppy, mind you, they DID buy her a kennel that she CAN'T reach because she is always tangled up & the chain they have her tied to is only about 6 inches long! WHY DID THEY EVEN BOTHER!!!!!!!  I HAVE called & emailed the RSPCA numerous times & after about 4 weeks, they did come out & the Inspector spoke to the owner for about 5 minutes, then left. He didn't even go into the house or look at the situation this poor dog is in!!!!  NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!!! We are living in Toowoomba, QLD & it has been getting down to around 3 degrees through the night & this poor dog is BLOODY cold. It rained here today & she had to just lay in the cold rain, unable to reach her shelter. She was visibly shivering & couldn't move an inch, so I spat the dummy!!!! I got out my wire cutters & a dry blanket, cut her chain & put the blanket in her kennel. She was SOOO happy, she licked me all over & ran into her kennel & snuggled up into the blanket immediately. I am probably breaking the law by doing this, BUT I WILL KEEP ON DOING IT!!!!! This poor dog does not deserve to suffer because her owners are #%^&*(@!*^!!!!!!!!!

There is a park near my house and in one of the houses that backs onto it there is this dog that has green on the inside of his ears. Also around the collar it's green too :/

It goes mental whenever someone goes past (though so does my dog and we don't neglect her, she just LOVES people) so whenever I walk past the dogs have a sniff of each other at the fence.

Don't know what I should do :/

I'm probably wrong in saying this, but the "Authorities" are useless!!! Undo the dog's collar & let it out of the yard. Your dog may carry on when she sees you, but that is heaps different from what this other poor dog is going through. If its' collar has gone green, you can bet your bottom dollar that it has been tied up for a LONG, LONG time. It will probably be picked up by the pound, etc., if you do untie it,  but will then have even the smallest chance of a LIFE. If not, it would be much happier in Heaven. idea angry

These posts are making me cry  sad

All I can say is please, never give up. Call, call, call! Call anyone and everyone you can and don't stop until someone takes action!

Try your state's Animal Liberation. They will be able to help if the RSPCA won't listen.
