Good to hear they are changing it. But I wonder why they don't have to list that as an ingredient on their packaging :/ Maybe it is such a miniscule amount that they aren't required too by law.

Thanks for following it up Janine happy

They probably don't have to list it because it's a process, not in ingredient (similar to the reason pink slime doesn't have to have ammonia listed as an ingredient, even though large amounts remain from the 'process').  Not all wines/beers list their fining products.

^ Yeah true that. Like bone char in sugar in America, or gelatine in fruit juices etc.

I got a reply today, this is it:

Good Morning Janine

The processing aid used in our liquorices is called Capol (which originated from animal). The capol is to prevent the liquorices from sticking together and this type of capol is commonly used widely in confectionery industry.

We are currently in the process of changing our capol with the non animal origin and this will be available in our store soon.
I could be wrong, but this makes no mention of animal products at all...

Hi Shara,

I have had confirmation from our Quality Assurance Manager, that the Capol used on our liquorice has changed to be vegetable oil based, therefore it is suitable for vegetarians & vegans.

Kind regards,
