As  long as the animal isnt coming from a back yard breeder, i dont see why people can't buy from a reputable breeder?
Real breeders wont pump out litter after litter "just coz".
They will have enquiries, and from there they will judge whether to breed another litter in the near future.

Dont get me wrong, i am all for adoption (i foster for a animal rescue group in Melbourne, my last foster dog was a back yard breeding stud, absolutely beautiful!), and i plan on adopting a dog from my rescue group in a few years, but if people are after a pure bred dog, then you shouldn't judge them OR the reputable breeder for doing the right thing.

Hey you, well if we don't have breeders then there will be far less homeless babies who require loving homes. This is a way of looking at the picture as a whole instead of just the symptoms, we find the source and cure it.  Breeders are one of the sources of the cause of a lot of pain  x0x0 hugs

I hate that people don't know about these sorts of things. Human ignorance is so potent in this world. :/

I dont mean to start a debate; but out of all the dogs in shelters 25% of them are PureBred dogs, So Yes Breeding of any sorts contributes to the large scale of dogs and cats that end up with a needle in there arm.

I wont Lie, my family bought our Current Dog off a Registed Breeder. Who only breeds once a year or every 18 months, we were on a waiting list for 7 months. She had the dogs on large open runs, they were healthy and as happy as they can be. But becouse my dad wanted a St.Bernard and we already had one ( She came from a St.Bernard Rescue when she was 8 months old ) He loved the breed so wanted to get another one befor our girl passed away. I tryed everything under the sun to adopt one from the pound but Dad just wanted a St.Bernard and nothing else. I researched St.Bernard Rescues, and there was non avalible ( Which is a good sign ) So i guess since the dog wasnt mine i didnt really have much of a say in it anyway.

I always have the horrible feeling that we could of saved a life but insted we killed one.

I would never support a breeder esp when so many are killed - i would love to rescue a greyhound ecstatic

my mum also bought one of our dogs from a registered breeder, it is hard to convince people otherwise when they have their hearts set on a certain type of dog...not that i agree with it at all!! our other two are rescued and i will only ever get rescued animals for the rest of my life!!!  including horses!!

and im going to rescue a greyhound too!! arent they just amazing dogs!?!!?! ive wanted to rescue one for aggeesss!!!!

love

i think this new oscars law ad is awesome!! SOOO many people have NO idea about where their dogs come from!! its crazy!! i was talking to one of my school friends the other day and i mentioned puppy farms and she had no idea what i was talking about...i couldnt beleive it!! but then again not that long ago i had no idea either!! its awesome to get it out there!!! ecstatic

I liked the Oscar's Law ad! I thought it was great! It might have been better if the puppy farmer appeared friendlier, and if they had met at like a park or somewhere nice, to really emphasise how deceitful puppy farmers can be!

I don't really have an issue with reputable breeders. Although I would always prefer to rescue and save lives. Being a volunteer at a shelter it's sad to see the same cats week after week, you wonder why they spend months waiting, when there are always so many people wanting cats! It's because of pet shops and breeders!

I got my cat from an extremely good breeder 3 years ago, the breeder is still in contact with me, and has always been there to give me advice when I needed it. He's a genuinely good person, and he loves his cats to pieces, he only breeds a few times a year. It took me 6 months before he would even consider me as a potential owner. I had to know the breed inside and out, and I had to guarantee that I would never let him outside, because of the dangers that may risk his life. But I'll never go to a breeder again, no matter how good they are.

My dog is also purebred and he spent the beginning of his life in the pound. While I was there I saw a number of other purebred dogs, including an Akita, Staffies, Kelpies, American Bulldog, Poodle, Chihuahuas, Beagles, Rottweilers, and Border Collies! It's ridiculous how many purebreds end up at the pound! Purebred cats are very uncommon, but purebred dogs are in every second pen!
