I was looking for 'Hannibal' in the search bar on Big W's website and this came up:
http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/dvds-blu-ray/horror/bpnBIGW_AIDDVCHOLOC/cannibal-holocaust-deluxe-collector-039-s-edition

I thought it was banned? Why the hell would they be selling it, especially considering the fact that animals AND people were killed during the production? I don't see why anyone would want to buy it...

No people actually died. The 7 animals killed (and how they were killed) however is not pleasant :/

And it is legal now, just rated R18+

Pig, snake, tarantula erghh don't remember the rest.
7 animals all up were killed.

It happened over 30 years ago and none of the human deaths were real, which is why it isn't banned anymore.

A coatimundi (mistaken as a muskrat in the film) is killed with a knife.
A large turtle is captured in the water and dragged to shore, where it is then decapitated and its limbs, shell, and entrails are removed. The actors proceed to cook and eat the turtle.
A large spider is killed with a machete.
A snake is killed with a machete.
A squirrel monkey has the top of its skull chopped off with a machete.
A pig is kicked twice and then shot in the head with a shotgun at close range.

So 7 animals. (The monkey scene was shot twice, so that's two monkeys.)

You are shocked to find Woolworths Limited selling/profiting from something which is unethical?

Did you write or complain to BIG W, you might find the manager of that store or the buyer is unaware of the fact that it is real.  I mean it is a movie after all, make up, computerised scenes etc..... take the factual informaiton to them.  Be an activist  clap

I had never even heard of it.

It's not really controversial in mainstream business's view, I think there are bigger monsters to tackle, considering the date of when the movie was made.

OMG it is shocking to think that it was made and filmed in the first place but even more shocking to think that people still buy and even watch this film. It is at times like this that I am ashamed to be living amongst people that think this sort of footage is acceptable. What is happening to society!!
