the Dairy industry

how do you get your point of view across....

Ok So i posted a link from Animals australia on my facebook page and basically got abused for doing so.... because I guess I cannot have an opinion??

There excuses were:

There is no rape involved, that the cows naturally mate...

None of thier baby cows die - they just get sold...

and "also the other thing is that all the farming (including export) in australia keeps this country rolling(remembering most of australia is farm land!)...although most people dont understand this because they simply only know one side or chose to hear only one side..."

I basically just asked questions etc. trying to understand where they were coming from, but I guess it is hard to get your poin of view accross to dairy farmers themselves... SO i was wondering how everyone else deals with people when they 'judge you' and come up with such excuses.....

I am sick of it... should I just shut up and not say anything???

Get them (those who aren't dairy farmers - as their farms may be different but I highly doubt it) to read my blog post. This may be some shameless self promotion going on, but it might help..
I've personally worked at a local dairy farm - I know what goes on - more than just that post entails.
The baby cows DO die - they are sold to the slaughterhouse and sent on a truck once a week.
It is technically rape - artificial insemination against the cows will - if that's not rape I don't know what is.

Thats the video link I posted too... which she said was not true... Ahh I could not imagin that!! Makes me feel ill just thinking about thoes poor babys!!

their excuse was they keep all ther male dairy cows to become bulls... for breeding.... They must keep a lot of cows then....

They wouldn't keep all the bulls for breeding - dairy cows have to have babies too often for them to keep all their boys as well as the girls - unless it's a particularily big farm.
And I'm pretty sure most farms artificially inseminate now-a-days rather than letting nature take it's course.
That video isn't from the farm I was at - just something that was obviously related.

Ive posted about the dairy industry many times on my Facebook and got alot of abuse but also alot of support.

I find when you use the word "rape" people get touchy, even thought techically it is, you need to chose your words more appropiratly.

Ive been to a dairy, seen what happens, ive been to the cattle sales and seen unbelevible abuse towards cows and calfs, ive rescued dairy calfs that were heading to the slaughterhouse - Both Male and Female - 2 of the most recent rescued dairy calfs were both females and aged 1 day old and 3 days old >> here is a video of them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAsty38VnNg

People seem to get very touchy on the dairy, rodeo and horse racing topics. Best way to talk to people who argue about these topics is to show facts, figurs, videos ect. Generally when you ask for them to provide evidence there is none and they generally back off tongue
