Hey Guys,

I got Flick desexed back in March 2012, she was 6 months old at the time of her operation happy she recovered well and had no problems but she now has a large flappy bit of skin where the operation was, it feels soft and there is no lumps in it but since her Op it seems to be slowly getting bigger? Could it be getting bigger as she has been gaining weight and muscle tone? When we got her she was emaciated, covered in fleas and l

I am pretty sure this is normal because both my girl cats have that little flap of spare skin hehe. It's quite cute. One of my cats has heeaps of it because she got babysat by my nanna for a week and got fat really quickly through that week and had to lose weight but has never really lost all her weight and has lots of spare skin and it has been years :') so cute though.

Don't worry! All cats have that flap. It's nothing to do with desexing them. I have two cats, one barely has a flap at all and the others ones flap is huge! Totally normal. We had to take the cat with the flap to the doctors a few times last month for other reasons and asked about the flap and the vet said that all cats have them, some cats just have them more so. The flap on our cat seems to fluctuate.

That's called a fat pouch, also known as a fat sack or fat pack. It only occurs in cats who are over weight. My Abyssinian has it, and I've had to put him on a diet. My Tabby cat doesn't have it. Don't worry about it too much, but try to get her to lose a bit of weight.

Note, not all cats have it. It's not normal, only overweight cats have it. It won't affect her health, but carrying that excess weight around isn't good for cats, she might end up having joint problems or arthritis when she gets to an elderly age.
