My advice is always think wholistic - your aches and pains are usually symptoms of something that you can treat simply and without medication. Treating the root of the illness, not the symptom, can be a good approach if you wish to avoid pharmaceuticals for ethical or health reasons.
Finding a good naturopath or herbalist is a good idea, or seeking safe natural remedies to simple maladies online can be helpful too.
There are vegan alternatives to some things, like the NuvaRing being an alternative to the contraceptive pill. Of the two I would personally simply rather take the pill though, I don't consider it a huge support of milk though it contains lactose. The support it shows pharmaceutical companies is more worrying to me, which is one reason why I chose to stop taking it.

This is a hard one, and makes us all hypocrites.
No alternative? Make one. But just how hard would that be!
But I think we should never shield ourselves from the truth about how it was produced by taking 'plain' brands... no, we should remember the ones who suffered, and apologize and feel truly sorry,  and hope soon enough we will create alternatives.

A peaceful world, one step at a time.

I hardly ever get sick. And I never get headaches. Well, according to my mum I had one when I was 5. But I don't remember it. They sound awesome though...  ashamed

I have to take the contraceptive pill for health reasons as I get horrible cramps that leave me crippled for 2 days vomiting and fainting. I'm sure there's a vegan pill out there somewhere but none of which my doctor knows of. I feel ashamed that I take a pill that not only contains animal products but is also more than likely tested on animals. Although I'd much rather put my suffering above animals, I'd like to live long enough to save as many as possible and maybe even create my own kind of pills and medicines that are vegan.

Just to add in guys, Period Pain pills and any other pills that are for certain ailments - are just regular pills with a pricier label on them to target the certain problem. They have the same amount of ibuprofen and ingredients as regular pills.

How do I know? Mum's been a pharmacist for 25 years tongue

I looked into it a few years ago and couldn't find any vegan alternatives sad I hardly ever get sick either but regularly take the pill and asthma medication. Most medicines have been tested on animals at one stage.

As Matt said, cars have surely been tested on animals or contain animal bits, so I think you just have to decide what you are most comfortable with. There's no right and wrong happy

For pain killers I use Herron as they are an Aussie owned company who don't test on animals! (I emailed and checked) they have good stuff... even a period pain pill (it's in a pink bottle)
I skim read that as heroin...
A lot of people do LOL

i think medication is a hard one to avoid animal products or tested on animals.
headache tablets ill only take if i really need to after trying to drink more water to see if im just dehydrated (its usually the reason) or from having constant pressure on my neck and back.
and another hard one to avoid in immunisations im not for all of them but having a bub i will be getting her imunised as id rather not risk her life just because it may or may not have animal products, we read about all the side effect and everything before jumping in, but i would be devastated if just because i chose not to get bub imunused and she got seriously ill. when it could of been avoided, i just which they would make nicer ones that dont have all the crap in them.
but i agree just do what you feel comfortable with not everyone will agree but  there might be something they do that you dont like.
